Description

Live life out-of-bounds.

The name is no joke. The Surface Live Free Ski gives you a liberating fat, rockered tip for floating through pow and an ultralight poplar wood core for fast ascents into the great white yonder. Made with backcountry skiers in mind, this fun-hog fatty won't weigh you down on the climb. KEVLAR® reinforcement give this feathery stick serious strength and added durability, which is also provided by the mini-cap construction. A stiff camber underfoot delivers lively pop into turns and hard-biting edging power when negotiating firm entrances or icy sections. The ABS sidewalls and a directional tapered shape let this ski run and charge hard, no doubt about it. But the name of the game here is fun and free.

  • Early rise hybrid rocker profile with traditional camber
  • Directional tapered shape
  • ABS sidewall construction with mini-cap
  • Ultralight poplar wood core
  • KEVLAR® reinforcement
  • 2.5 full wrap steel edge

Awesome Skis!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I took these with me on a trip to the Norwegian Arctic, and they were absolutely BOMBER! I logged close to 50,000ft of climbing (and descending!!) on these bad boys, and they didn't disappoint. I have them mounted with some Dynafit FT12, and they are still incredibly light.

If your looking for a great do everything ski, this is it.

Bulletproof skis! Just in case..

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love these skis and I love supporting a local Utah brand such as Surface. These Live Frees have a kevlar core in case you ever find yourself in a 'ski-by ' on the slopes. I agree with Matt below that the bases are soft; however, I do not run into any issues wit their durability when I wax them. But with the kevlar core you don't have to worry about many core shots throughout the season. Great for touring, I mounted dynafit bindings on them with black diamond skins and it all works perfectly. They're great for just shredding through powder. The three stage rocker design is great, you can get a longer ski than you usually ride since the tips and tails are not on the snow while you ski, making turns feel like a shorter ski. Overall, I love these skis.

I love everything about them, but....

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The bases! They are so soft I got huge scratched from rolling over branches. They are so soft that when I scrape wax off them the bases get little hairs on them. It's too bad because the shape, flex, and dimensions of the ski are on point. It's beautiful, but the bases are just too soft. Other than that I love them, a bit on the heavy side for touring. But you won't be complaining when you are skiing down. Especially at the end of the day when your buddy is getting a work out with his light skis in the crud are you are cruising through it effortlessly.
