Best Hiking Hat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Light-Weight, Great Coverage/Protection, floats in water, breathable material.

It looks silly, but would you rather look silly for one day on the trail or have sunburn on your face peeling skin for 3 week?
This hat gives you great sun protection even the back of the neck which is very great not alot of hats over protection for the neck. The hat is so light-weight you won't even notice it on your head. Works great in hot weather because of the breathablity material its made from and the sweat moisture head band keeping the sweats out of your eye.

Definitely try in store before you buy online.
Better to get a perfect fit than wrong size online.

How does this hat handle getting soaked?...

How does this hat handle getting soaked? I can see how the back would plaster onto your neck, but how about the brim?

Responded on

The fabric is DWR coated so it is water repellent. It works pretty well in the rain, both front brim and back neck cape. However there are ventilation panels and it is not waterproof so it is clearly not a rain hat.

Sunday Afternoon Adventure Hat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I used this on a recent trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons. This hat kept the sun out of my eyes and off the side of my face. The end of my nose did get burned surprisingly. In the wind make sure you have the strap in place as it will blow off your head.
I found the hat light and comfortable and will use it often when I'm outside around the house too.

LOVE!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have been looking for a wide brimmed hat to work in. This one shades my entire face all day. I love the soft back since it doesn't get caught on my pack pack. Cool, breathable, everything about this hat is perfection. Might have to buy a couple more!

What size head does the small hat fit? I have a very small head, 20 3/4 - 21 inches. Thank you

Responded on

Small fits 20"-21". It should be perfect for you. A medium would be too loose and blow off with every gust.

Best sunhat EVER

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Others have said it, I will say it again: this is the best sunhat I have ever come across! It is light, packable, easily washable, great coverage of your face and neck, mesh on the sides so that your head can breathe, adjustable strap in the back, and even has built in UV protection. It is so perfect for hiking and backpacking, dries quickly, comfortable, perfect! There is literally no other hat like it. In terms of durability, I have owned my hat for over 5 years now and it looks brand-new. I've bought one for my boyfriend, friends, and family: they make great gifts as well. You will probably lose it before it wears out (has happened to me). The only bad thing to think of: they are not that stylish. I think my head looks like a giant mushroom when I wear it lol. :)

The best sun hat I've ever had

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It is very light, covers completely, string under the chin keeps it on in the wind, it has vents, it is packable, although you have to be careful not to bend it in half, because foam inside will be scrunched and hat will have a strong crease in the middle. Make sure visor part is flat, when you fold it.
Sizes are very generous.

Lots of Shade and Breathable

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I bought this for my mom. She said she said the sun protection offered was fantastic. It is very light, and extremely breathable. The cinch in the back also makes the head size adjustable, which is a nice addition. The back can be velcro-ed up to the main hat too!

Perfect for backpacking

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my 4th backpacking hat. It's the best. Better than TNF, REI, OR and Patagonia hats. The best part is the back has no brim and I can look up while wearing a large backpack and not hit the hat or knock it off. Just did 220 miles on the JMT with it. it was perfect.

I really like the hat because it is light weight and has a good sized brim. The front brim holds its shape which I wanted.

How does hat run? I am an adult female with a small head

Responded on

The hats run bigger then I thought they would so get a small. The elastic in back helps. I got a medium but I will get a small next time.

My parents are going to Africa for a safari in May and they requested safari hats for Christmas. Is this material too heavy to be good for that kind of activity or is there another hat you would recommend instead?

Responded on

Hey there, yeah this is definitely the style you want, brimmed with a drop back to cover the neck... I personally like the versions with built in bug repellent... also this one doesn't describe any SPF rating...

How much to ship to Phoenix, Arizona, 85013? Is there any tax? Thanks, Mike, PS This is for the Sundays hat with sun protection.

Responded on

Hey Mike. The easiest way to fid out the shipping amount would be to put it in your cart and choose which type of shipping you prefer. You do need an account to do this, but it is free and easy to set up. Hope this helps.

Do you have an extra large?

There is no XL Size but a L should be pretty big

Responded on

I agree. Most one size hats are too small for me, but L was a bit too large for me, so I am ordering second one in M.

Just what I've been looking for.

The Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat is great. Large sun visor and neck apron, under the chin cord, washable, adjustable size strap in back...it couldn't be better if I had designed it myself. And it looks great on. I love it.

Spent two weeks in the Yucatan with this hat

When trekking around the Yucatan Peninsula, visiting ancient Mayan ruins and whatnot, you can't underestimate the power of looking like a complete American tool in this hat.

You'll stand out like an oasis of money in a desert of poor. There'll be so many offers to buy woven bracelets and keychains made from clay and spit you'll be able to mutter the words "No gracias" in your sleep, but at least your face and neck will be partially shielded from the brutal equatorial sun.

The Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat is light and crushable, and you wouldn't even know you have it on if not for the snickers of tiny Mayan children, trying desperately to contain their amusement at your atrocious sense of fashion, even for an American. If they offer you black knee socks to go with your sandals, simply toss a handful of pesos behind you, remove the hat and quickly blend with the German tourists at the buffet line.

The versatility of this hat is amazing! Not only did it prevent my alabaster face from blistering to a crispy shade of "Nantucket Lobster", but it also did double duty shielding my bulky DSLR camera from the many random, spontaneous downpours as I trudged back to the bus, soaked to the bone and looking like the only idiot who forgot to bring a hat to the Yucatan rainforest.

All in all, a quality buy and an essential companion to your family size tube of zinc oxide. Just remember to take it off and hide it behind your back before they take that picture of you in front of the pyramid at Chichen Itza.
