Comfort that goes to eleven.
Sugoi gave its popular RSE Shorts an update for 2013, starting with a redesigned pattern for each of the shorts' individual panels. While the existing shorts worked incredibly well, Sugoi wanted to improve them by incorporating its advanced fabrics into an entirely new construction that would better hold and support the body while in motion. The result is the new RSE, providing you with an outstanding fit and unparalleled level of comfort.
The carefully engineered panels of the RSE were constructed out of Revoflex fabric. This lightweight, breathable fabric is a wicking warp knit material that provides excellent moisture transfer during high intensity workouts. As you perspire, the moisture is pulled off of your skin and transferred to the fabric's quick-drying outer layer. Sugoi knew that fewer but larger leg panels would better wrap the large muscles of the legs, which is one of the reasons it redesigned the shorts' paneling construction. In doing so, the firm stretch and compressive nature of the large fabric panels now hold your body in place better than before. This means that besides the supportive attributes delivered through Revoflex, it also results in your muscles staying shielded and protected from oscillation caused by road vibration. Now, in addition to staying cool and dry, your body remains fresher by delaying the onset of ride-contributing muscle fatigue.
Another benefit of using larger panels of fabric is the achieved body-following fit while in the riding position. Because the panels were cut on a curve, they contour to the muscles in your leg and stay firmly in place. These panels were joined without any stitching along the nine-inch inseam, which, besides providing friction-free comfort, also reduces bulk under the chamois/saddle region. Finalizing this smooth fit is the RSE's bonded seam construction and wide gripper bands blended into a clean edge finish.
Sugoi incorporated its women's-specific top-tier, FXE insert. This chamois features a welded center channel that aids in ventilation, while also contributing to pressure relief. Note that we said 'welded.' In fact, you'll find that the entire surface of the FXE is actually seamless. Through a proprietary system of lamination, Sugoi managed to form the chamois without dropping in a single stitch. Furthering this theme of anti-abrasion, the FXE surface is layered with the antimicrobial synthetic, Meryl Skinlife. Additionally, the inserts' four-way stretch ensures that its side panels move with the body, further reducing chafing. In terms of pressure relief and support, Sugoi engineered the FXE's shape to provide support to the sit bones while keeping pressure off of the pudendal nerve and ischial region.
The Sugoi RSE Shorts are available in four sizes from X-Small to Large and in the color Black.

Fit a bit strange
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs large
I was excited about the deep discount on these but ended up returning. I ordered an L which is what I usually wear and is consistent with the size guide for my measurements (I am 5'9" 155 lbs). There is a "yoke" across the front of the shorts that is tighter than the surrounding material and creates an unattractive "V" across the belly because of the inconsistent compression. Meanwhile the leg grippers were too loose on me (and I do not have stick legs).
Otherwise the product seemed well-made but I can't comment on the chamois or performance otherwise as I did not use them.
Capable of a century
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Wore these shorts on a 103 mile ride with 7000 feet of climbing last week in Greenville SC. They were so outrageously comfortable everywhere I needed them to be that I'm buying another pair.
