A winning edge.

If a comfortable set of bib shorts will take the sting out of challenging rides, and the Sugoi RSE Women's Bib Shorts definitely fit the bill. With a ten-paneled, anatomically-contoured fit, and Sugoi's top-of-the-line FXE chamois, the RSE bib shorts have everything that you need to enjoy long days in the saddle.

Sugoi built the RSE bib shorts from its Revoflex and Revoflex Mesh fabrics, because of each material's proven wicking abilities. Basically, by transporting moisture to the surface of the fabric, the RSE bib shorts allow that moisture to evaporate much faster than it would on your skin. After all, staying dry is key to being comfortable on long rides. Accordingly, Revoflex is applied throughout the majority of the shorts, while the Revoflex Mesh finds its way onto the panels at the outside of the legs. In this position, Sugoi is capitalizing on the material's increased air permeability. And, as a result, Revoflex Mesh provides an even greater airflow, which lets off excess heat. So, you stay cool in addition to being dry.

The RSE bib shorts are built from ten panels, with each being cut to specifically contour with a woman's body. This means that the shorts move with you as you pedal, instead of either bunching or chafing. In keeping with the anatomic fit, Sugoi crossed the bib straps at the back, which places them around your breasts, instead of over them. And speaking of preventing chafing, Sugoi employed a bonded seam construction, thereby eliminating chafing at the seams.

As you would expect with shorts of this caliber, the RSE bibs are built around Sugoi's FXE women's-specific chamois. This insert is anatomically designed to channel pressure away from your sensitive nerves, and in turn, direct that pressure to your sit bones. The reason for this is simple, as your sit bones are more adept at carrying your body mass. The FXE chamois is laminated, rather than being stitched, which eliminates the need for uncomfortable seams. There's a tapered perimeter to this insert, which is bonded into the shorts, rather than sewn, which again, cuts out seams in order to fight chafing. And since you need to stay dry and cool, Sugoi built the FXE chamois with wicking materials and perforated panels, which provide extra ventilation. Furthermore, the RSE shorts make use of silver ions, which are permanently bonded to the fabric of the chamois. And it's not just for show. Silver is naturally antimicrobial, which stops any colonies of micro-organisms from making a home of your riding attire.

The Sugoi RSE Women's Bib Shorts are available in four sizes from X-Small to Large and in the color Black.

My favorite bibs

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

A customer service rep at Competitive Cyclist recommended these to me, and I like them so much that when I accidentally made a duplicate order, I kept it so I'll always have one if the other is in the laundry. The right size is very important; if it isn't somewhat difficult to put these on, they won't look good or provide compression. I tend to order up a bit in street clothes. 25" waist = 26 jeans. I've learned that with cycling clothes, they need to fit your measurements as accurately as possible. I'm 5'3", 117-120 lbs. and the XS is a perfect fit. They never need to be fiddled with or tugged at or adjusted during a ride. The legs stay in place, the straps don't move, and the placement of the waist/tummy panel is blissfully comfortable. The padding doesn't have any inexplicable ridges and in spite of fitting like a wetsuit, they don't cut or bind anywhere. The white leg band is very flattering. One caution I'd give is that the straps in XS fit me perfectly, but I think they might be too short for anyone over 5'5".

Perfect bibs

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've just received these bibs and tested them on a 50 mile ride. Their shape fits perfectly, and most importantly, the chamois is the best I've ever had. The one thing we need to know about these, the sizes are tiny, and I had to order the next larger size than what I usually wear.
