Wasatch Trail Run Essentials (for a girl)
By: Marit Fischer

List Description
There's nothing like a long trail run in the Wasatch or the Uintas when the summer is hot down in the valleys. Here is my list of essentials.
Hydration Pack: I love Nathan Systems. I tested a number of their hydration packs while keeping Karl Meltzer company on some of his legs during his speed record attempt of the Appalachian Trail last summer. This is called a Race Vest, but it's great for fastpacking or any long run.
Shirts:
SmartWool Microweight Tank: With the SmartWool tank, you don't have to worry about chaffing or staying sweaty and wet. But it's the cut of the top that I love: straight straps! Those of us who have to wear real sports bras (not just cute little strappy accessories) will appreciate this. This tank goes over a sports bra, hides it, and keeps you from getting a super-striped-from-too-many-straps back tan.
Stoic Merino Bliss: You need to have a long sleeve shirt along with you just in case. The Stoic Merino Bliss is a perfect option. It's light, made of light merino (not too hot, not too cold), and the half-zip at the neck lets you control your temp even more. Plus the brown and jade combo is pretty.
Bra: Like I said, some of us can't mess around with flimsy little bra impersonations. The CW-X Ultra Support is a good one. It gives you the support you need to run without any pain, chaffing or discomfort.
Shoe: The Montrail Mountain Masochists are light but tough. And they fit a foot like mine: long and narrow, and a footfall like mine: stable.
Skirt: I never thought I'd say this, but I love running in skirts. I became loyal to Sugoi because of their cycling gear and they haven't let me down. I always go with black because by the end of my run, I'm inevitably covered in dirt, snot and Hammer gel, and all that just goes better with black.
Socks: I'm a fan of Teko socks. They are well-built, durable and comfortable. I like the light weight, the ultra-light, I find, are too thin.
Drink: Nuun is easy. Easy on my stomach (I haven't found anything else that is) and easy to carry (because it comes in tablets, not messy powders). I like the mixed berry and the mixed berry only, but flavor preference totally depends on... well, your preference.
