Intro to Alaska Winter Mountaineering (semi-technical, non-glaciated)
By: JHypers
List Description
List Description
A good way to train yourself for bigger, more remote mountains in Alaska is to get out into the mellower mountains frequently. Those who live near Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley have the perfect training ground for big mountain climbs, as they are right next to the front range of the Chugach Mountains.
Not sure about your travelling ability on snow or ice?
Want to learn how to self-arrest or glissade?
Need a crash course in winter camping?
This gear list will break down everything you'll need, based on my own personal experience and that of others I know, for a 2-3 day trip in the front-range mountains of Alaska.
***This is partially a wish list. I will list the gear I use (or would use if I owned it), or equivalents if the exact item is not sold at BC.
