Great winter sock

SmartWool Ski Sock - Medium

Rating for this product: 4 September 30, 2007

Wool works better than the synthetics and is more eco-friendly too. Only bummer is that these socks aren't 100% wool. But the spandex helps keep the socks from falling down.

very comfortable and warm

SmartWool Training Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 September 30, 2007

This beanie has a near perfect fit on my head. It's so light that it doesn't weigh my head down. And the elasticity is just right. Clean lines and great colors. This is a great choice.

The most ecological water bottle on the planet! More durable than plastic, no leeching of dangerous chemicals, lightweight, stylish, eco-friendly, and just plain awesome. Very durable and great cooling

Mountainsmith Modular Storage Cooler Cube

Rating for this product: 5 September 30, 2007

This cooler is top notch. I own 2 other softshell coolers from different companies and this one is by far the most durable, best constructed, and thickest insulated. I use this once or twice a week while on the road and it works like a champ. Loads of storage space and very attractive.

SmartWool Snowboard Light Sock

These socks work great. They are very warm and they stay up with no fuss. Plus, real wool beats oil-based synthetics any time!

Amazing Ecological bottle

Backcountry.com Goat Klean Kanteen - 27 oz

Rating for this product: 5 September 15, 2007

I own 4 of these Klean Kanteen bottles - 2 27oz and 2 40oz bottles - and I use them everywhere - on runs, on trails, in the car, etc. Finally an eco-friendly choice...but it gets better. Unlike plastic bottles (even the Nalgene and "taste-free" eco-plastic bottles), this is the only water bottle or bag that doesn't leach a nasty taste. Plus, even Nalgene bottles have been shown to release carcinogens. To test, just put the bottle out in the sun for a day and drink. Yuk! While plastics are porous (or micro-porous), this metal is not - meaning no nasty bacteria will grow on the bottle. Watch out - other plastics are treated with nasty chemicals to be anti-bacterial. Plus these are super easy to clean - just add diluted vingear, shake, and rinse. And the cap is awesome. It's very tight and has a great loop for extra security, clips, or just to slide a finger through. They're light too! Plus, the never wear out! What's not to like?

Ditch the backpack, get this!

Mountainsmith Day Lumbar Pack - 854cu in

Rating for this product: 5 September 15, 2007

Why use a slim backpack when you can use this! 1150 cu.in.!!! This is bigger than most daypacks and puts the weight where is should be - on your hips, at the center of your gravity. Plus, this lets your back breath. If you do pack this full, try out the strapettes, which act like backpack straps, but are more comfortable allowing breathability and weight distribution without hunching over. I'll never go back to a backpack again.

the best unframed travel pack

Osprey Packs Porter 46 Backpack - 2800cu in

Rating for this product: 5 September 22, 2006

Pick your size 45-60-90... you won't be disappointed. The pack conforms perfectly to the body and doesn't cause the body to contort to the pack instead of the other way around. very secure strapping system and the straps tuck away nicely. A top quality bag. I'm buying my second (the 90) very soon.

Not my style or fit...

The North Face Renegade II Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 September 3, 2006

Rating is due to personal taste. Don't like the tattered and worn edges look. Hard to tell from photo. Also, the short size is not all that short. I am 5' and wear size XS or S cargo pants as regular pants. The short size pants were still too long.

Oh so soft

Icebreaker Sport320 Rock Zip Shirt - Long Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2006

I prefer natural fibers to synthetics every day of the week. This shirt is the best base layer I've ever found. Great to wear around town and in the mountains. This is a very very very soft shirt. I absolutely love it and own a lot more Icebreaker shirts. Check out Ibex Merino Wool as well. It's not as soft to the touch, but has a different more Earthy style. Both brands fill my winter closet.

This cooler is simply the best

Mountainsmith Deluxe Cooler Cube - 1600 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2006

I love this cooler. Fits a day's worth of food with icepacks no problem. It keeps everything cold no problem. The cube is collapsible for packing. The deluxe model has a fold-out bottle holder and mesh pockets that are great for more bottles or non-chilled items. You may want to check out the strap (an additional buy) to make carrying easier. This easily beats hard plastic coolers.

Awesome design idea

Osprey Packs Departure 60 - Mens

Rating for this product: 4 August 27, 2006

This pack has one of the most innovative designs I've seen yet. Unfortunately, the pack has one flaw. The pack protrudes very far from the body, placing the center of gravity too far away from the body. This causes the person to lean forward to stable the weight. Other than this, the pack design is very advanced making the pack a lot of fun to use. I prefer non-framed packs which conform better to the body and recommend the Osprey Porter & Osprey Solo/Daylite combo.
