Better than the average bivy

Black Diamond Tripod Bivy Bag

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

Much, much better actually. No more claustrophobic steamy nights in a tube bivy. Like other Bibler tents, it is tough as nails, exceptionally water proof and made to the highest standard. I spent several nights in it in some of the worst thunderstorms the Unitah and Wasatch mountains had to dish out - hale, rain, and freezing night time temps, and it worked extremely well. The vestibule at the top gives you a glimpse of the outside, is perfect for keeping your boots dry, some water and snacks, and even allows reading with a headlamp.

Most comfortable boot I ever wore

Salomon Revo SCS GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 24, 2006

Wore the Salomons on a quick and grueling 4-day backpack in the Uinta Mountains. My feet never felt so happy. 50lbs on my back, on and off trail, rocky terrain and steep talus - these boots feel like pillows around your feet. Due to personal lifestyle choices I prefer not to buy leather which greatly limits my choices. I wore down 2 pairs of Garmont Vegan/Nagevi (I spend a lot of time on the trail) which worked well enough, but the fit wasn't nearly as good.

Roomy and comfortable

Granite Gear Alpine Vapor Backpack - 3600cu in

Rating for this product: 4 July 11, 2006

Very comfortable to carry, with plenty of room for gear, change of clothing, and even works for a quick overnight bivy. Tough exterior and plenty of loops for climbing gear and a couple of ice axes. I do wish they included a removable lid with a good size pocket though. The optional lightweight one is hardly worth the extra money.

Comfortable, but not durable

Montrail Stratos XCR Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 July 11, 2006

I'm surprised only one person mentioned it - these shoes smell horrible. Right out of the box you'd think you stepped in horse manure. Still - they are exceptionally comfortable. The real down side for me was the XCR membrane lost its water resistance after just one hike, and after a couple of months of use, tears are already showing above the toes. A good concept in need of further refinement.
