Sierra Designs Sirius 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season    Read other reviews of this product

hey, for the money...   02-16-07

...this isn't a bad tent at all. First the negatives: It's design--using only a 2/3 rain fly--inhibits it from being a "fastpack" tent where you take only the rain fly, poles and footprint to save weight. However, there are other lighter and cheaper ways to take along an emergency shelter. Setting it up in the rain without it getting wet inside is tricky (but possible!). However, this limitation exists with all mesh-bodied tents that depend on the rain-fly for all their protection. It's too big and heavy as a solo tent, so you might look elsewhere for those types of trips... If you don't set it up the right direction and/or behind a wind-break, or the wind changes directions during the night, it can get real drafty real quick. This is really only a problem when you are pushing your gear's cold-weather comfort to its limits and need all the extra warmth you can get (not recommended!). ---------- The goods: It's very light weight for two people (and a load-bearing dog!). It's extremely easy to set up--almost idiot-proof...almost. It's incredibly stable when fully staked and guyed (buy the extra stakes if you think you'll be encountering high winds) It's very breathable and doesn't become a super-humid sauna at night. It's roomy enough to store some gear inside w/two people (and a medium dog)

Columbia Thermal Guard Sweater - Fleece Jacket - Men's    This product is no longer available

great for layering   01-07-06

The fleece is very soft and supple. It has an athletic cut. The fit around the trunk and neck is snug, but the arms are cut to allow a lot of movement without the trunk moving or feeling restricting. While this makes the arms seem long/baggy at first, once you start moving in the jacket you will appreciate how unrestricting it is without compromising ability to layer. It fits great under my softshell jacket. Contrary to the description, it does have two side-zip pockets, and works great as a standalone outer layer in mild weather or for loungewear. The look of the exposed stitching might bug some people. Not me. It's a shame Columbia doesn't seem to be making the full-zip version anymore. I recommend it over the pullover for added versatility (and plain old easier off and on!).
