La Sportiva Miura Climbing Shoe - Men's

May 30, 2008

I have wider feet and wear a size US 11.5 or 12. I've heard that Sportiva's generally fit narrower feet better, so I'm curious if these follow that stereotype. Also, how much to size down?

There's a reason everybody has Camalots...

Black Diamond Camalot C4 Package #0.5 - 3

Rating for this product: 5 March 7, 2007

...especially the new C4 design. They're lightweight, ergonomically very comfortable, and have an excellent camming range. I bought the package as a start to my cam rack and will likely be buying the same package in the future to double up on all my sizes. A definite "must-have" piece of gear for any trad rack.

So far, a great shoe

Five Ten Moccasym Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 March 7, 2007

I've always heard of the 5.10 Moccasym as being a great climbing shoe, so, when the time came to get another pair resoled and I needed to have a backup, I decided to give them a try. I wear a size 12 and ended up getting into a size 11. They were uncomfortable at first, but after only a couple of times out they quickly molded to my foot and are very comfortable to wear. I've been very happy with 5.10's Stealth rubber compound--it's super tacky. They feel a little more loose on my foot that I'm used to, which takes a little getting used to, but I attribute that more to the fact that I'm used to a real tight lace-up. Given how they are feeling and performing at this point, they may just become my primary shoe and the ones I got resoled may be the backup...

Super light, super strong, and super smooth

Petzl Spirit Carabiner

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2006

The Petzl Spirit is, in my opinion, the slickest ‘biner out there. Keyless gate and very smooth clipping action make unclipping from your harness or gear as hassle-free as possible—no hang-ups! The anodized finish lets you easily distinguish your gear from your partner's gear, plus, the color pattern on the straight gate ‘biners is the opposite of the bent gate ‘biners, making it that much faster for you to decide which one to grab. A+ for Petzl.
