Suunto T6 Watch

May 20, 2008

I've had this watch since the summer of last year. It's a killer training helper, but it will not work in water. I tried using it to do laps in a 50m pool and the heart rate readings were way inconsistent. Part of me thinks that the strap does not stay tight enough and water just passes through. For everything else, it is fantastic though.
The chest strap can't send signal through water to the watch. There is a memory belt that records HR data internally, then can be uploaded to analyize the data, if you want to use it for swimming. the Memory belt will also transmit to a watch for non-aquatic readings.

Answer to: "how accurate are handheld or wrist altimiters?"

Suunto Escape 203 Handheld Altimeter

May 10, 2008

These are super accurate, providing you calibrate them before you use them. They read altitude from barometric presssure, so unsettled weather will make them slightly less accurate, but, typically within 10-15 feet over the space of the day, even in stormy conditions.

You can replace any Core strap with any other Core strap. They are all interchangeable. Go Aluminum, it looks super dope.

light and solid

Oboz Switchback Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 9, 2008

Going on about a month with these, and they've been solid. The sticky sole is really stable, but doesn't mark up the floor like other sticky soled shoes. I also like the weight of these which is fairly light, especially considering the support that they offer. Great hiking, and even better off trail with a stiff midsole and rockered bottom. They'll be on my feet every day once the snow melts!

Arc'teryx R320 Rock Climbing Harness - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 28, 2008

I had the fortune to get my hands on the R320 last Rocktober, and put quite a few sport and trad pitches on it. The obvious question: Is it comfortable? Answer: equal to my old Vapor, but with even less bulk. The Arc'teryx designers have innovated again, and left the other harness companies behind. The weight distribution is what makes this harness work. Other harnesses use padding to minimize pressure points, whereas the R320 uses the structural webbing, spread edge to edge in the leg and waist, to alleviate pressure points all together. I could barely tell I was wearing a harness until I came to a stop after pitching, and not landing on the ground. Gear racks are low-profile,and you can change racking direction to tend forward or back. And the face fabric is super tough Schoeller. Go get those offwidths! Coolest thing in climbing gear this season, for sure. How old is your harness?

better than the previous best

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2007

I've had my Core for a couple months now, and just started skiing with it. The interface is really easy to use, and it has a more intuitive menu setup than my old Vector. It's also about half as thick as Vector, but still has a big, easy to read face. I used it a bunch this fall on hiking and climbing trips, and it worked great. The extra features are nice too; sunrise/sunset, snorkeling and storm alarm. Plus, it looks much nicer than older versions, with an aluminum bezel (or steel for the steezee) and mineral crystal face. Great update to a classic!

easy tech

Suunto T6 Watch

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2006

I've been running and biking with a T6 for a couple months now, and I find it's way easier to use than I initially though. There is a ton of information that it gathers, but when it's put into the software and graphs, it's easy to take it all in. Can't wait for snow so I can record my season's total vertical, and see my heart rate spike with face shots!

Sickle Crux Knicker - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 14, 2006

I've been using these for the last couple seasons, and it's the piece I always grab for a day of climbing, sport or longer trad routes. Good knee protection, but still can see my feet. Also like that I can carry a small flexible water bottle in the pocket without harness interference. They're tough but light, just don't light them on fire as they're synthetic. Just got my second pair.

Sold Out
