Mountain Hardwear Conduit SL Bivy
May 29, 2005
This thing has become my sleeping bag’s new skin. Just zip it on and never worry about water again. I've used it in the winter and summer in the mountains and on the coast. This thing makes your down sleeping bag rock solid. One thing I learned is just put it on your bag before you leave and save some room in your pack.

Therm-a-Rest Prolite 3 Sleeping Pad
May 29, 2005
If you are someone that sleeps on your side (like me) this pad will almost do the trick. I still had a bit of a problem with my hip in the morning. I'd go with the pro light 4 just for the extra padding. As for keeping me warm, it did the job.

Black Diamond Terra CF Trekking Poles - 1 pair
May 29, 2005
I'm a pretty big guy (215lb) and these things stand up to everything I've done to them. They have a great swing weight and grip so you don’t even notice you’re using them. Also, the carbon fiber middle section makes these things weight next to nothing. I was able to power up hills like I never have before. One of the best buys I've made in a long time.

Black Diamond Terra CF Trekking Poles - 1 pair
May 29, 2005
These poles are wonderful in every way, shape, and form. The carbon fiber mid section makes them light and strong. The handles on them make you forget that you have them in your hands. Even the swing weight of them just seems better than any other poles I've used. I'm a pretty big guy and they hold up my weight without a problem. And if you’re rolling your eyes at the fact that they have no anti-shock system, please don't take that into account, these poles make up for it in performance.

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp
May 29, 2005
Great little head lamp with a massive life span. Great for bombing around camp or reading at night. It’s also lightweight and pretty nice to wear. However, if you are doing something at night in the woods I'd say going to something with a little more kick. I got pretty freaked out by things I could just not make out when I was in the woods at night.

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove
May 29, 2005
So you show up at camp for your first night of camping ever. You got your gear on a budget. You go to cook and find that even the most seasoned vet is using this stove. You know you've made the right choice. In short, everyone uses this stove. Not just because it’s cheap, but ‘cause it’s great. Easy, simple, light, small, and hot. Enough said.

Mountain Hardwear Mountain Jet 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season
May 29, 2005
If you’re a gram counter but don't like to spend the night in a "2" person tent where you really get to know the other person up close, this is the tent for you. I have used this tent in all kinds of places conditions and elevations and I don't think I've ever been so happy with a tent. To sum it up, I went on a 3 day trip last weekend (Mid May) and we got snowed, rained and a strange combination of the two on every day and night. (Gotta love Canada) On top of that we had warm snaps as well. Since the Mountain Jet is a single-wall tent, I thought condensation was going to be a major problem with the weather changes. However, it really wasn't. We stayed pretty much bone dry the whole weekend. The only real condensation that occurred was over my tent mates head but I'm guessing this was due to the fact he was in a -18C bag in 15C weather and sweating like mad. At night we were able to sit 4 people in the tent to play cards without getting overly close to each other. After all is said and done, it’s a great tent.

Primus Himalaya Multi Fuel Stove
May 29, 2005
I've been on 5 trips with this stove - it’s clogged on 5 trips. When this stove works its great, but even with the cleaning kit if you look at it the wrong way it will stop working. A few times the stove didn't have any clogs in it but it still wouldn't work. I might sound bitter but after being on an 8 day hike with no stove after day 2, I think I should have reason.

MSR WaterWorks Ex Ceramic Water Filter
May 29, 2005
I've had my filter 3 seasons now and it is great. It screws on to a Nalgene bottle or an MSR Dromedary bag and then you’re off to the races. Just don’t drop the ceramic filter when cleaning as it can and will break. If you are traveling outside of North America get the Water Works since it cleans a little better than the Mini Works.

Snow Peak Trek Combo Titanium Cookset
May 29, 2005
I picked these up along with my solo set. I've cooked for five people with this set. They look small but that is due to the fact that they aren't wide like most other pots. They are tall instead. I'm pretty sure that the shape is due to their stove designs. The Snow Peak stoves are quite small and only heat a small area. The one point that I'm not a fan of, but I knew when I bought them, is that the frying pans don't work at all. Titanium doesn't channel or distribute heat well so if you want burnt eggs with runny whites give it a shot. Use the frying pans as bowl/plates.
