Best Beanie
Arc'teryx Classic Beanie
March 31, 2008
This beanie is the best of all beanies. It is softer, warmer, and better looking than any other beanie Ive ever worn. The best hat purchase Ive ever made. It is rather pricy, but definitely worth the extra money. My first experience using this beanie was on a multi-day winter backpacking snowshoe trip up in the White Mountains. Perfect.

Best Hiking Shoes Ever
Garmont Eclipse XCR Hiking Shoe - Men's
March 31, 2008
The Garmont Eclipse XCR Hiking Shoe is my favorite hiking shoe ever. Last summer I hiked and backpacked over three hundred miles with these shoes, primarily in the mountains of New Hampshire. They double as my only pair of everyday shoes. They are comfortable, durable, and battle tested. As a bonus, they look good too.

Patagonia Parachute Pants
Patagonia Active Boxers - Men's

Patagonia makes great clothing, but these boxer shorts were just huge. They were very comfortable, but huge like wearing a parachute for underwear.

Best of Both Worlds.
Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad
September 21, 2005
We camp at developed campgrounds and in the backcountry woods of New England. We bring our Therm-a-Rest Base Camp Pads to both places, as they are fairly light and compact, but most importantly, comfortable. Sure there are lighter and more compact pads, but we are not hiking the AT, so an extra pound doesn't really matter - and is definitely worth the extra comfort.

Great Buy!
Mountain Hardwear Lamina Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Thermic CF
June 22, 2005
I bought this bag because it was affordable, lightweight, compressible, and water-friendly. I've used it backpacking through some poorly kept trails in northern NH, and also while "camping" at some NH state parks. When backpacking, it helped that it was extremely lightweight! When camping, I slept in a puddle, but it kept my dry and warm, and then dried out quickly, without the funky smell that develops with down sleeping bags. Great bag for spring/summer/fall!
