great straight out of the box
Vasque Velocity Trail Running Shoe - Men's
October 19, 2007
My favorite trail shoe. Wide toe box, good cushioning, durable enough to fend off the rocks, sticks and roots of techinical trails. great traction on almost everything, good not great on wet rocks. I wore a pair straight out of the box with a pair of Injinjis and gaiters for the whole race recently at the Bear 100. Zero blisters and only 1 lost toenail.

Rugged, durable, comfortable
La Sportiva Pikes Peak Trail Running Shoe - Men's
January 2, 2007
This was my first pair of La Sportiva shoes; I've worn mostly Montrail in the past. The fit is great - adequate for wider feet, but the advice given by other reviewers to size up by 1/2 size is a good idea. They seem very durable and surprisingly light - looking at them you might think they would be heavy. They feel a little like Montrail Hard Rocks but are better built.

no more blisters
Lorpen Coolmax Multisport Ultra Light Shorty Sock
July 29, 2005
The Lorpen X-Treme trail running socks layered over Injinji toe socks have been a great combination, not a single blister in runs up to 50 miles. Thin, cool and comfortable, and seem to be very durable.

Montrail Vitesse
Montrail Vitesse Trail Running Shoe - Mens
October 4, 2004
What a great trail shoe. I have a hard time finding the right width in trail shoes, usually wear a EE, and New Balance was the only maker I could find. The Vitesse however is roomy enough for my fat bunions, and by far the most comfortable trail shoe I've worn. I can't think of a good reason to try anything else.
