THE BEST EVER
Black Diamond Ahwahnee Tent 2-Person 4-Season
October 3, 2004
OK I've hiking in the backcountry for over 25 years and remember when we used to camp in canvas tents! You couldn't touch the side or it would spring a leak. I think you could roll down a hill inside this tent and it wouldn't spring a leak. High ceilings, two door and iron clad construction make this an awesome heavy weather tent. I was in hellacious downpours in Idaho this September and i didn't get to seam seal this baby and not a drop entered our domain. perfect for 2 big people. i'm 6'1" and she's 5'8" and with the vestibule we and gear fit fine. The 2 doors made easy access for the 2 am piss and an awning let plenty of air in even when the storm was whipping past,up and all around us. what a freakin tent. I'll never own another.

Great materials but too small for a big guy at 6'1 I didn’t really fit so I exchanged it for a little heavier tent the Ahwahnee.

LB FOR LB THE MOST COMFORT
Therm-a-Rest Prolite 3 Sleeping Pad
September 26, 2004
Ok all you ultra lights out there you’re not going to dig this at all. Too heavy for you. At 13 oz it might as well be a ton but after 32 miles in 3.5 days I need a little comfort. Its the smallest lightest sleeping pad I found. Yes you could use foam or go with out but if you can live with the 13 oz its great. My girlfriend didn’t like the 3/4 length she likes her feet off the floor but when I gave her old pad back and she felt the 1+ lb difference she dealt with it. No need to get the stuff sack it was a little too big anyway.

LIGHTEST EVER
Marmot Helium Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down
September 26, 2004
Now this is absolutely the best bag I ever owned. Expensive...I don't think so. Ask my back. At mile 11 in hells canyons 7 devils in Idaho I didn’t feel a thing. At 20 degrees I was so warm I was naked. The half zipper was no bother and rolled up to the size of 2 vhs tapes. Please forget the budget save the weight stay warm and go the distance!!

IT REALLY WORKS
Therm-a-Rest Lite Chair Kit
September 26, 2004
Ok if you read any of my reviews you know I’m 43 years old and on a quest to lighten my load. This was one luxury that I hoped would work but had no faith it would. So I lug this contraption 14 miles in one day on a great 32 miles loop in hell’s canyon's 7 devils wilderness. There were no campsites and nothing to sit on anywhere. I set this thing up and sat in it and I couldn’t believe it worked. Not only did it work but it was comfortable. It felt soooo good to sit and not lean on a stump on top of gear. Worth the weight if you crave comfort. Even a little comfort. Too heavy if going ultra light. For the weight I give it "4". Durability may be an issue with heavy use we'll see.
