Alterra Altimeter Watch- "...not so good"
Highgear Alterra Altimeter Watch
July 3, 2007
Had the watch for 4 weeks and never saw the weather icon change in the face of real weather variations. Watch was rebooted with great help from BC and Highgear techs over the phone but no change with weather icon. Altitude could be 800-1200 ft off true elevation even with daily calibrations. Barometer was fairly accurate. Compass has a funky display to indicate lead point; a series of vertical lines interfaced with compass-face letters. As reviews noted, thermometer is markedly affected by body temp. It’s difficult to see bezel markings in the sun on graphite model (silver bezel). Although reviews suggested accuracy not to be spot-on I was expecting a bit more from the altimeter and weather icon functions. Perhaps I was still expecting too much from the watch or perhaps I had a lemon… right now it’s on its way back to BC for a refund.

Very Functional and Comfortable
Spyder Jackson Softshell - Men's
April 30, 2007
Bought this awesome soft shell in mid-March of this season; for spring skiing needs. Wore it at Big Sky and Silver Mtn; temps 20s in the AM and 50s in the PM. Warm enough in the AM with soft shell's insulation and a t-neck. Pit zips work great to control overheating in the PM. Very windproof. Convinced if you wore an insulated under-layer you’d be just as comfortable in a colder mid-winter setting. Fits slightly sung for easy movement but with plenty of room to layer. Hood fits over a ski helmet a bit snug; doesn't give easy 180 degree movement but enough to look at blind spots while moving down hill. Outside pockets very functional but wish it had at least 1 inside pocket. This is an awesome soft shell. The novice to the most advanced skier will love this soft shell.
