Rating for this product: 5 March 8, 2007

These are the ultimate ski bib. I've had mine for 5 years and they still perform the same as the first day. I wont wear anything else.

Don't leave home without it

The North Face Heat Exchanger Balaclava

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2006

I have tried many gaiters and balaclavas, and this one from The North Face is by far the best one. I usually wear it without the heat exchanger, and the mesh material over the mouth means that the inside of the balaclava stays dry and my face stays warm. I highly recommend this essential piece of gear if you are doing lots outdoor activities in a cold locale.

Powder Mountain 1 Day Adult Lift Ticket

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2006

Just went to Powder Mountain for the first time last weekend, and I was blown away by how much skiable terrain there is. If you want some adventure, buy a $7 cat ticket and take the short cat ride up to Lightning Ridge and you have a skier's paradise below you. This is the place to be on a powder day.

nice shape

The North Face Flight Tee - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 28, 2005

This shirt is a must-have for any fast aerobic activity where you are moving around a lot. It is nicely contoured to fit a women's upper body, yet doesn’t restrict like most tees that try to be "shaped". The material is super-wicking and will keep you dry, and is surprisingly soft against the skin. There is supposedly a stash pocket, but I don’t understand how it works because it’s upside down.

super comfy

The North Face Flight Trail Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2005

These shorts are super comfy for any run, whether on the trail or the road. The material is so light you don’t even know you are wearing shorts. The inner brief is a nice and soft fleecy material, and doesn’t chafe or rub at all. They are baggy but not long, the perfect combo. Get ‘em and start pumping those legs!

never wet

The North Face Prophecy Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 28, 2005

This is the lightest waterproof jacket I have tried on. The taped seams ensure that nothing gets through and the HyVent waterproofing material is terrific. I've worn this is a downpour and stayed as dry as a bone. A nice surprise is the little zippered stash pocket on the sleeve. Its perfect for keys, emergency whistle, tootsie rolls, whatever. If you see the clouds coming in, grab this jacket and you'll be happy.

Light and Flight

The North Face Bicom Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2005

This is the lightest wind jacket that I have ever tried on. You can use it for any aerobic activity, and you won’t even know that you have it on. While I wouldn’t take it out in a driving downpour, it provides adequate protection in light-to-medium rain. The fleece-line collar is an added bonus, and feels nice and soft against your chin. I take this thing everywhere!

don't buy another bag

The North Face Hightail 900 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2005

By far the most comfortable, lightest bag I have ever owned. It was like sleeping in a king's bed, the down is so plush and soft. It is also surprisingly comfortable in a range of temperatures. I slept in it during a 60F night, and not one drop of sweat. The only drawback is that you will never want to get out and get hiking and reach the peak.

all-season shirt

The North Face El Cap Shirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2005

This shirt is very versatile. You can wear it alone hiking in the summer, or as a base layer under your fleece while skiing in the winter. It’s also super breathable and light enough to be worn running and moving around a lot. Get the red color, and you'll never get lost from your friends. Bottom line: don’t leave home without it.

Swix Membrane Gloves

Rating for this product: 5 March 15, 2005

These gloves are excellent for cross-country skiing or any other outdoor activity in the cold. They are super warm and still flexible enough to allow you to work with your hands or grip a pole or whatever. I recommend them for anyone who tends to get cold hands easily but still wants to enjoy being outside in the frigid winter weather.

The solution to winter running

32North STABILicers SPORT

Rating for this product: 4 January 25, 2005

If you find yourself addicted to running, and have to get out there even when the roads and sidewalks are covered in ice and snow, then these are the ideal accessory for you normal running shoes. The studs grip the ice and snow, making it very difficult to slip. However I have two complaints: 1) They are difficult to attach to your shoes, especially if you are between sizes. 2) The cleats seem to wear out very easily. Overall, they perform very well and will make any run enjoyable even in the worst winter conditions.

Oakley O Ring L/S Shirt - Womens

Rating for this product: 5 August 31, 2004

This is a great stylish shirt from Oakley. The O Ring design on the front is pretty cool and makes it look different from a regular t-shirt. It's super comfy and the cotton is soft. You might want to order a size larger than normal because it does have spandex in it.

Carb Boom Carbohydrate Energy Gel - Real Fruit

Rating for this product: 5 July 29, 2004

This stuff is much better than GU or Clif Shots. Its not as sweet and I can actually swallow it without gagging first thing in the morning. Plus, its made with real fruit so it tastes nice and refreshing! My favorite flavor is apple cinnamon but they are all really tasty. Use it whenever you need some energy/calories before or during a workout but you can't stomach real food.

Champion Trail Runner

Montrail Masai Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2004

The most comfortable, best-performing trail running shoes ever! I felt like a champion in these shoes, flying up and down the trails with no worries at all. Nice cushioning and lightweight, so you can wear them on the roads too. Also very breathable for those hot summer days. I would recommend these for anyone who likes to hit the trails hard, but doesn't want to sacrifice speed or performance.

Took a tumble

Montrail Vitesse Trail Running Shoe - Mens

Rating for this product: 2 July 22, 2004

I was not happy with these shoes. First of all, they are incredibly stiff with little cushioning. I would not recommend wearing them on the roads at all (even for a short 1-2 mile warmup before the trail). Second, the tread is wimpy. I took them out for a trail run, and I wiped out 3 times -- and it was only about a 6 mile run. The only redeeming quality was that they seemed to have good rock protection in the sole...but I really needed that protection on my whole body, not just the bottom of my feet.
