It's about time!
Salomon Canyon Mid GTX Hiking Shoe - Women's
August 8, 2007
These shoes reminded me of a waterproof, mid-cut version of my old favorite Salomon Solaris Low. I needed something a bit more waterproof for extended backcountry excursions, and these fit the bill. And this after I have tried umteen boots over the past 3 field seasons. These boots are comfortable, feel very "grounded" with good sole support and flexibility, so far they have proven their "waterproofness", and the mid-cut of the boot is fairly supportive. I am a pronator with weak arches, but haven't felt any hotspots or "numb toe" syndrome as I have with other boots. I will probably purchase a couple more pair so that I don't have to go through the nightmare again of trying to find the right boot.

Ouch!
La Sportiva Halite GTX Hiking Boot - Women's
July 31, 2007
At first, I thought this boot was great! First tried at home, walking around the house for a week, then worn to work for 2 weeks. Next, an 11-mile hike in steep terrain, and despite a couple of hot spots, I still thought they were ok. Then on a 3-day 30-some-mile backpack trip in montane/alpine terrain. After day two, I refused to wear them any longer. The sole’s stiffness did not loosen - there was little flex, and so I had pain in my toes. Five days later, I still have "numb toe syndrome". I do have pronating feet with weak arches. Replacing factory insoles with Shock Doctors did not correct the problem - bad feet could be part of the issue. The boots do have good support and are waterproof - my feet didn't sweat excessively. The braking system works well on scree-y terrain. I will, however, be searching for another boot.

Happy Feet!
Salomon Solaris Low Day Hiking Shoe - Women's
September 10, 2005
I bought these to replace my Salomon Exclaims (precursor to this style), which I've worn for the past 3.5 years. As with my previous pair, as soon as I put them on, my feet said "Ahhhhh!” There was no break-in time, they are very comfortable and supportive, and I've never a blister or a sore spot. I am a pronator with very weak arches, and find these shoes to accommodate my feet very well!
