Lowa Banff Backpacking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2005

After a year of using these boots, I am still in love with them. They were really comfy out of the box, but they are now my best friend. The boot has nicely molded to my foot, and the support is really awesome. I have hiked 100s of miles on them on rough terrain and they have not failed at all. I stepped in water for long slogs and no wetness in the least. The shoes really have saved me quite a few times. The sole is so grippy that I have never lost footing from slipping yet. My narrow heal and fat forefoot never had any problem either, which shocks me. The only thing is that they are a little eaten up on the toes because I am VERY hard on shoes. This is to be expected and give my boots character. I LOVE these boots. I bought 2 more pair because I was afraid they wouldn't make them anymore. One other thing, I noticed that my feet never got hot like in some other boots that I have worn. It must be the pump air system that they are touting. It works. These boots are worth every cent. The more you wear them, the more you'll appreciate them.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...

The North Face Momentum Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2005

This jacket is a very comfy jacket. It not only does the job, the cut is nice as well. So, as you are working out or hiking you can look great too. The thumb holes are of great use to me especially in the morning cold. The jacket breathes very well and the stretchiness lets me move unrestricted. Since this jacket is so light, it's really easy to throw in a pack. I must agree with the other opinion though. It would be nice if the jacket were a little more wind resistant. After you get going and you start to perspire, that wind really blows right through the jacket. I did not buy the jacket for wind resistance though, so I am pretty happy. Would I have spent the same money on it again? Yes.

Primo Jacket

Arc'teryx Gamma SV Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2004

This jacket is the nicest jacket I have ever owned. It is a very flattering cut that allows movement when needed. It is a hardy softshell that is very well made. It is such a wonderful jacket that I purchased 2 more. I was afraid that Arc'teryx would not make this style next year. I know they are pricey but I am sure all of my jackets will last a very long time. Not only do they look very nice, they are very comfy. I use them for backpacking, hiking, and just going around town. Worth every penny!

windstopper is the topper

Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2004

This is a pretty nice jacket. Not only is it flattering, it's technically nice. The seams are all very nicely sewn and Mountain Hardwear put in the pit zips which I love. Where I hike, it is very windy. The Gore Windstopper does its job fantastically. Then once I get moving, I start to really heat up and the pit zips really work wonders. This jacket allows freedom of movement and is so nice and light. I really love it. The colors are nice too. Not that anyone really sees you out there in the wilderness, but I wear it around town and it really looks great. I also wear it to casual functions. Nice jacket that I really like almost as much as my Arcteryx Gamma SV.

Softshell city

The North Face Apex 1 Jacket - Womens

Rating for this product: 4 December 28, 2004

The Apex 1 is a nice softshell. Great quality as I have brushed against all kinds of abrasive surfaces and have not had a snag of any kind. Stitching on the jacket is good quality too. It is a very light soft shell with a nice soft comfy collar. The velcro sleeves are of good, but a little narrow. I like the feature that allows you to adjust/tighten the collar for those blustery days. Pockets are nice and large for carrying whatever you need. The only thing I do not like is the way it fits around the chest. It's comfortable, but doesn't look great. The jacket doesn't fit as well as the Gamma SV by Arcteryx. But, I guess the price reflects why. It is well priced and for the money and the Apex 1 is a nice jacket. It will last you a very long time. Besides, when you are out in the wilderness, who sees you???

clogs with clout

Salomon Snow Clog - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 28, 2004

These snow clogs are pretty good. They have the contra grip soles that don't freeze in below zero weather. I was just in Chicago where it was snowy and it was only 1 degree and the clog still kept me in the vertical position. No horizontal points of views of Chicago this last trip. They are warm too because of the Thinsulate lining. I like the fact that they are water resistant too. The 2 things I don't like are the leather tag that is sewn on the inside of the shoe. I find it a pain to always have to hold it while putting the shoe on. I can't just slip the shoe on. If if don't hold the tag while putting the shoe on, my heel pushes it into the inside of the shoe, then I have to dig it out with my index finger. The other thing that I am whining about is, I am used to comfort of Merrill Mocs, and these are just not as soft and springy. But, if I never tried Merrills before, I would say these were the bomb. All in all, a very good shoe.

Tout the Scout

Lowa Scout II Hiking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2004

This boot is a pretty much bomb proof boot. I wear it for backpacking and day hiking. It is so comfy with the glove leather lining. It just seems to conform to your feet. The more you wear them the comfier they get. They fit pretty much like the Lowa Banff. There is plenty of room in the toe box too. I have flat wide feet with a very narrow heel. In other words, hard to fit feet. These boots are so comfortable, I could hike in them right out of the box. No hot spots or blisters. Very nice boot. Not too heavy, but heavy enough where you don't hurt the bottoms of your feet or twist your ankles like crazy. Good boot for the moola.

Flat feet unite!

Lowa Banff Backpacking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 30, 2004

These boots are very nice. Comfy out of the box with very little break in time. They are very similar to Scouts and Sareks which I have owned. I like the rocker sole which neither of the other two shoes had. The Banff shoe is nice and sturdy but not clunky. It keeps my feet from getting fatigued with a pack. Traction is great except on wet rocks but that is to be expected. I give them 5 stars. I have hard to fit feet (flat and wide) and these do the trick!

CW-X Expert Tight - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2004

These pants are pretty neat. I don't agree with the ad on the lactic acid stuff (I am an exercise physiologist)but they are well made and look great. A bit pricey, but if they are well made I am not opposed to that.

Windy Weather

Marmot Evolution N2S L/S Half Zip - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 29, 2004

I love this shirt. I wear it biking and it breathes as well as wind blocks. My husband and I were shoveling snow in our Evolution shirts and it started snowing. Interestingly enough, the snow didn't soak into the shirt! We still stayed dry! I don't think many people know about this quality. It won't keep you dry in a down pour, but you'll stay dry in flurries and rain. Also, the wicking capability is great!

wonderful wind stopper

Marmot Evolution LS Half Zip - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 29, 2004

This shirt is awesome. Bought the shirt in many different colors and sizes because I liked it so much. The shirt breathes and performs even better than the Mountain Hardware N2s. It looks nicer too. Not only that, it has vented sleeves so you don't overheat. This shirt is worth the money esp. when on sale! Thanks BackcountryStore.com

CW-X Expert Tight - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 7, 2004

These tights are really neat. They are very well made, and I mean great quality you expect for the price. I am not sold on the claims about the lactic acid recovery (being into anatomy and physiology), but they feel good, look great and are quality pants. They are also on the flamboyant side. So, if you like quality and flash, these are for you.

light jacket

The North Face Apex 1 Jacket - Mens - 2003 Model

Rating for this product: 4 December 30, 2003

This jacket really is a nice looking jacket. It sheds water and is kind of wind resistant. The quality of the jacket is really pretty good for the price we paid. It has fabric that is close to the Schoeller fabric. I like it better though because it has more give in it. It has nice touches also like the neck and bottom hem adjustments. Very nice jacket.

wind stopper

Mountain Hardwear Transition Zip Tee - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 10, 2003

Very good wind stopping shirt. I wear it cycling and it can be used from 40-60 degree weather without a problem. It breathes extremely well and I am really surprised at the wind stopping capability. The only problem with it is that it snags very easily. Other than cosmetics, it works like a dream.
