  • Live in Wisconsin along the Mighty Mississippi - Originally from Iowa. Wish I lived in Colorado ;)
  • Bio:

Mom of three kids (ages 10, 9, & 2) - I drag them & my hubby along on all of my adventures. Love the winter and downhill skiing. Ex-USSA and college raceteamer (GS was my fav). Had my kids on skis before they could walk - now the older two can follow me through whatever I hit them with (moguls & all).

When it's not snowing, we hike and go on our boat. We spend most of the summer waterskiing. Hit up the mountains of Colorado for a week of hiking most summers - made it to the summit of 2 mountains this past trip with all three kids in tow. My 2 year old gets quite the ride in a carrier, but the other two are troopers often pushing us to go farther than we had planned.

Otherwise - I'm a graphic designer for a phonebook publisher for my real-world job. Ski instructor and photographer for my wish-they-were-my-real-world jobs (not enough stable money in either).

Happiest when I'm outdoors introducing my kids to new adventures and watching them learn to live in harmony with nature:)

So Cute & Functional!!!!

Haiku To-Go Bag - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 2, 2008

I LOVE THIS BAG!! It is so much better than I could've imagined. The colors look even cuter than online (I have the brown w/green) and it has a great texture. Even though it is faux leather, it looks very expensive and not cheap or fake and feels soft. It wears amazingly - I have gotten this thing wet and spilled on more times than I can count and it still looks brand new! The strap is fully adjustable - shorten it up to hang it nicely up under your arm or extend it out for cross-body (it even goes cross body on my 5'9" plus size friend who can't find many bags that are long enough). Amazingly, the strap stays put when its just hung on my shoulder, something that usually doesn't happen. It holds a TON of stuff without being bulky (by a ton - magazine, small notebook, changing pad, wipe container, 2 diapers, snacks, extra clothes & toy for a 2 year old just in the large compartment alone. Plus Sherpani's Zoe wallet & a checkbook & pen in the 2 large pockets just under the flap with still plenty of room for chapstick, lipstick, powder, tissues and everything else I could possibly need). Plus I can fit a 16-20 ounce water bottle or sippy cup in one pocket on the side and my cell phone and sunglasses in the other one. About the only improvement I could want for this bag is to have a magnetic closure instead of the clip and to add something to hook your keys too (they do tend to fall to the bottom if I just throw them in), but I can't even list them as cons - just improvements. It has been worth every penny - I love that I can use it for everyday for myself and not feel like I'm carrying luggage, but can throw in what I need for my 3 kids too when on the go and not always have to tote around my diaper bag.

Perfect!

Sherpani Lena Diaper Bag

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2008

I had gone through 4 diaper bags within 6 months of my son being born - hating every single one. I finally found this one and absolutely fell in love! We've used it daily for the past 18 months and it has just now started to fade a bit (I put it through everything though - being drenched in mud & river water, long days on the beach, daycare daily, etc). It fits everything we need whether we're going to daycare, the store or out-of-town for the weekend. It fits a lot but is extremely easy to carry and comfortable. The organization is wonderful-just the right amount and size of pockets and I love the little pockets on the strap and front of the flap. They are perfect for my cell phone and a pacifier or small teether or toy. The changing pad is very nice also, slightly bigger than the other ones I've come accross, but not too big to fit easily in the bag. The look of this bag is wonderful also...it doesn't look like a diaper bag and it will be perfect for a bag for myself later. My husband even loves this bag (except for the flower interior-which he said he'll gladly live with though because it is such a great bag). I highly recommend it...well worth the money! It has held up great and I've even bought the slightly smaller Flora (the Lena is the Flora Major with a chaning pad included) to use on smaller trips now that he's 2. I would buy this bag a hundred times over again! Plan on buying them for baby shower gifts now.

Another great sherpani purse!

Sherpani Ivy Hand Bag - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2008

Love It! I got the Ivy for Christmas and couldn't be happier. I own a lot of Sherpani products (the Moe, Zoe, Lena, Milli, Mia daypack, Eila, Vida, Flora & Rumba child carrier) and I love this new line. It's a little less sporty while maintaining the outdoorsy style. This bag is a great size. I can fit everything I need (including a sippy cup for my son); it has great organization and a perfect number of size of pockets. It doesn't feel bulky and the shoulder strap is the perfect length (and it's adjustable) and actually stays on my shoulder (the only purse I own that stays on my shoulder). The lining is fun and I love the flower detail on the outside of the bag. The chestnut color is very nice. The material is very durable and I have found that Sherpani bags are worth every penny in style, comfort, quality and design. Another great sherpani product!!

Answer to: "Are the Keen Targhee Hiking Shoes washable? Here in Wyoming..."

KEEN Targhee Hiking Shoe - Kids'

July 20, 2008

My kids have drenched these in all types of mud and they always clean up nice. I wouldn't throw them in a washing machine or anything, but a little dish soap with warm water on a rag seems to do the trick every time for us. The leather is very smooth & tough, so wear isn't an issue

Comfortable and Cool

KEEN Voyageur Mid Hiking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 1, 2008

I really love these. They are my first hiking boot ever and were more comfortable right out of the box than most tennies I've owned. The ankle took a little getting used to, but I never got sore spots, just had never really worn much for boots before (unless you count the ski boots I live in in the winter). They are very light and have good air flow - my normally sweaty feet feel a nice breeze. They aren't waterproof because of the venting, but they seem to be designed just right that not much water gets in them and they dry very quickly, even while they are still on your feet. I bought them for a hiking trip in Colorado after making the mistake of wearing trail-runners last year and having very sore ankles. These were almost perfect and gave me a pretty good amount of support for my day hikes (including treking up to 13,800+ feet). The only complaint is that the insole could be better - it is very breathable, but it doesn't have a whole lot under the arch and my fore-foot could've used a bit more cushion. I compensated by wearing a little thicker wool-blend sock that wrapped around my arch and had cushion on the bottom. Even though the temps were in the 70's wearing wool socks, my feet were fine. (My actual star rating would be a 4.5 because of the insole). I'm going to get a new insole and then they should be perfect! I love the wide toebox, it kept my toes from jamming going down the mountains. I do suggest ordering a half size larger than normally for hiking (I got an 8.5 in these and I wear an 8 in my casual Keens and sandals) - the extra 1/2 size gives you room so your toes don't jam into the top on downhills. They are very cute too - they look great with jeans or cargo pants - the colors look so much better in person than on the screen. Would buy them again in a heartbeat.

The Best Kids Shoes Ever

KEEN Targhee Hiking Shoe - Kids'

Rating for this product: 5 July 1, 2008

These things are amazing! I bought my 10 year old son a pair of these last September after he ripped through yet another pair of shoes within just 1 month. I have never been happier with the quality of anything I have bought for my kids! He is now on his second pair - not because he wore them out, but because he actually outgrew them! This is the first time he has ever outgrown a shoe before destroying them (other than dress shoes). He can wear them for everything - school, gym, hiking in the mountains, church. They have been drenched, covered in mud and put through just about anything you can think of and still look new and don't smell (a first too). I just spray them off in the sink and let them air-dry overnight. They keep his feet dry in snow and rain, but are breathable enough that his sweaty feet don't die in them. I was so happy with them that I bought the girly colors for my 9 year old daughter and the toddler version for my 20 month old. As long as Keen makes these, I'll be buying them as my kids' main shoes.

The Best Shoes Out There

KEEN Targhee Shoe - Toddlers'

Rating for this product: 5 June 27, 2008

I bought the Targhee's for both my 9 year old daughter and 10 year old son - they are the only shoes that they have actually outgrown - ever! They usually destroy shoes within 2 months. So, when my 20 month old needed a new pair, I thought I'd give the toddler ones a try. We love them! They are not as stiff as the older kids version and have a very flexible sole-very important for young feet. They go on easy and fast with the hook-and-loop strap (no laces to try to wrangle with or to come untied). They look great with everything - shorts, pants and they even work for church or if we have to go somewhere a little nicer. They hold up wonderfully! The rubber toe bumper is pure genius - my kids have always worn through the front of their shoes within a month or two - especially as toddlers, but there is no wearing through the front of these. They can handle everything and look great after months of use and being coated in mud more times than I can count (I just wash them up in the sink). Oh-and they are leather (which a lot of kids shoes aren't)-my kids all have clammy, sweaty feet (get it from me) and these keep smelling good, which is a first for shoes for any of them. Unless they stop making these, the Targhee's are the only shoes I'll be buying for all of my kids from now on.
