don't believe the hype..
GoLite Ultra Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down
April 28, 2008
The light weight and reasonable price are unreal & it translates into poor performance. I've tried this bag in the 30 degree range a few times and it was really cold. Very disappointed with this bag. I plan on going with a Montbell UL SS Downhugger #1 & using this bag over it to bring it to sub-zero ratings. Lesson learned is that it's worth spending the cash for the right stuff. Would avoid this bag if you're looking for an "all around" bag unless you plan on using it for 45 degrees or warmer.

Ultra light & compact & holds water, what else can I say?
Platypus Platy Bottle
March 19, 2008
A wider mouth would be nice but isn't necessary for the weight increase it would bring. It looks like it would be a pain to clean but shouldn't be an issue since I only use it for water. Some household thermos cleaning solution should do the trick.

smaller than I thought
Snow Peak GigaPower Stove, Titanium Manual Ignition
March 19, 2008
I was cooking aside a MSR pocket rocket & the Snow Peak wasn't doing as well in the wind. Heated 2 cups of water in 30mph wind conditions (with a wind shield) in about 6 minutes. Flame was having a hard time with it's jet flow. This stove packs smaller than the MSR though & has a sturdier grill. One very disturbing experience: burner shut itself off after about 5 minutes on high heat. It turned back on when I re-lit it but after cooking and removing the stove from the fuel tank, pressurized fuel shot everywhere. I hope it was only a defective snowpeak fuel tank. Even so, it is scary to think what would have happened if there was an open flame nearby or if I had several more days on the trail without any fuel. I need more time to fully evaluate. Bottom line is that it is light & got the job done but has some scary dangers associated with it that may not of had anything to do with the stove itself.

light & solid cup
Snow Peak Titanium Single Wall Cup 600
March 19, 2008
handles get very hot to touch (this was expected) but the titanium itself cools very fast when removed from flame. This is expecially good to be able to drink from when making warm beverages. It would be useful if it came with graduated fluid volume marks inside the cup. I scratched my own marks inside instead. Overall very good quality & would buy again.
