Answer to: "This shoe is ohh so sexy, but is it sexy enough for me?"
Shimano America SH-R300 Cycling Shoe - Men's
June 3, 2008
Depends, are you too sexy for your shirt? (Ala Right Said Fred)
I prefer some of the sidi's for their lust worthy nature.
Best Tires Ever...
Continental Grand Prix 4000 Clinchers
May 31, 2008
I've got these on 2 bikes and the GP 4000s on one bike. I can't tell too much of a difference with the 4000s vs these but either way these are the best tires. I've tried other brands but Continental is always going to have my business. Knock on wood these don't flat as easily as any other tires I've tried.

Decent Light Seatpost...
Easton EC70 Zero Seat Post
May 31, 2008
This is a great carbon post. I wouldn't hesitate to give it 5 stars but the adjustment mechanism in the head is a bit tight. Then again how often do you adjust your seat once it's dialed. Ok, 5 stars it is... Also I love the mini cutout on the back edge to prevent binding the carbon and causing structural problems with the seat clamp pinching the post.

Good Stuff, application a bit odd...
Pedros Ice Wax
May 31, 2008
So this stuff works great for dry conditions and reduces gunk that normally forms with more liquid stuff. The Aerosol application is a bit odd though. I wish the control for how much you apply was a bit smoother, it seems like it is either on or off and on is a bit strong.

It's got Huge...Vents
Giro Atmos Helmet
May 30, 2008
So I would love to give this thing all five...it's great, fits well, has a bunch of vents. But the front pads have worn a bit faster than I would really like. They give you an extra set which is nice. But the original ones should just last a bit longer.

Decent inexpensive tubes...
Cutter Premium Road Bike Tubes - 4 Pack
May 30, 2008
I'm used to continental tubes but for the price I couldn't complain. Only concern is that one of the valves was loose, screwed in and works fine but was a bit odd to have it pull out when I unscrewed the valve cap. Got them in my wheels right now and haven't had a problem yet.

I've finally found it...
Pedros Green Fizz Foaming Bike Wash
May 30, 2008
The perfect bike wash...just keeps stuff shiny and doesn't strip the chain of every bit of lube so you need to overdose on the stuff every time you wash your bike.

Answer to: "So tell me Great Gear Gurus...Campy or Shimano ??"
Zipp Speed Weaponry 202 Wheel Set
May 26, 2008
Campy or Shimano refers to the freehub body. You will want to order whichever matches the rest of the equipment on your bike. Otherwise the rear cassette will not fit onto your wheels, which would be sad.
Correct: Yet the option drop down does not list either of the two choices. Therefor the question was mostly hypothetical for the Gurus to examine the fact that they neglected to list the options. JL
Answer to: "are these available in clincher?"
Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL Premium
May 22, 2008
You are in luck, these are a clincher wheelset.
Answer to: "I want to confirm this is a clincher and not a tubular tire"
Continental Grand Prix 4000s Tire
April 14, 2008
Clincher ... the tubbies are about $80.00, not $50.00
Biking and Beer...
Pedros Wall Mounted Bottle Opener
April 14, 2008
Go hand in hand like biking and beer...this one's mounted next to my grill now and after a great ride it's great. Opens bottles with the greatest of ease.

Answer to: "What are the benefits of a carbon fiber wheel set and are they..."
Zipp Speed Weaponry 202 Wheel Set
March 10, 2008
The benefits are for the most part purely in weight. The 202's are one of the lightest wheelsets out there. That said they are not particularly durable and wouldn't be a great wheelset for training on. Also these are tubular wheels and require gluing the tires onto the rim, something not for the faint of mechanical heart. If you are doing lots and lots of climbing and don't mind sacrificing a bit of durability these are awesome wheels. For a more durable version go for the Zipp 404 clincher version that has an aluminum rim with a carbon faring on it to make it really aerodynamic.
Alternately, you could get a set of Flash Point FP60s, which are very similar to ZIPP 404 Clinchers (same rim depth, same clincher rim, made by the same company) except the manufacturing process is less complex (no dimpling like the flagship ZIPP wheels), and they consequentially cost around $1300 for a set.
Answer to: "Does anyone have these? Are they any good?"
Crank Brothers Egg Beater 4ti Pedal
March 6, 2008
Got them, they are awesome. And they shaved a full half lb from my bike just by swapping out pedals.
If you aren't sure if you will like the pedal style check out one of the less expensive eggbeaters first.

Great warm casual jacket
Backcountry.com Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's
February 17, 2008
I love this jacket for wearing every day. It's warm, reasonably wind proof and generally fits well. My major complaint is that at 5'7" I'm normally a small but got the medium because the body fits a bit snugly. That said the arms a just a bit too long.

Decent Running Singlet
Pearl Izumi Phase T-Shirt - Sleeveless - Men's
January 29, 2008
Great for all but the hottest of hot indoor treadmill workouts and the stupid summer days where you shouldn't be running anyway. Well placed seams and I appreciate the slightly longer tail of the shirt (adds a certain amount of modesty for a running tank top.)

Odd Half Lining...but good
66 North Iceland Hofsjokull Ski Pant - Men's
January 29, 2008
Works well for a dedicated ski pant, but I wouldn't want to use them for a general backcountry set. The half lining is great when wearing a ski boot as you don't need the insulation there but it was certainly odd at first.

Great minus the arm pocket
Sugoi Firewall GT Full Zip Shirt - Men's
January 29, 2008
Great piece, I've used it for cold weather running and it works great. Just the right amount of insulation and keeps everything wicking well. My only complaint is that the welded seam left arm pocket makes natural arm swing feel funny, the seam is just too rigid.

Great Jacket
Castelli Freddo Jacket - Men's
January 17, 2008
Since it's been a bit too cold to bike, although I can't wait to use this jacket for biking, I've been enjoying it for snowshoeing. The cut is great, I'm on the skinny side of things (I guess these are cut slim). And the arm pocket is in just the right place. I've been using it for dog treats but it never gets in the way and I'm sure it will be useful when the bike season comes back around.

good running top.
Pearl Izumi Phase T-Shirt - Sleeveless - Men's
December 21, 2007
It's a running top so there isn't a whole lot to it, but I do like the offset seams around the sides and the tapered cut towards the back of the jersey.

Great Fit
Castelli Freddo Jacket - Men's
December 21, 2007
The Freddo has a great fit and really impressed me with some of the details. I love the collar and the little bit of fabric that folds down to block drafts when you look down. Great jacket overall.
