Old boots were a pair of Vans lace up. Not a bad boot but I was getting ankle pain from the beginning. I thought I would deal with it but it got to the point of severe bruising after two or three days of riding. I saw the add for the Alpha liner and thought I would give it a shot. I have never been more pleased. No more heel lift and the ankle pain and bruising is gone. Memory foam with the Jbars form pockets for the ankle and the BOA system is excellent. I love being able to independantly adjust the upper from the lower and do so on the fly. Excellent product and worth the money.

This is an amazing deck. If you ride all mountain freestyle or backcountry/POW this is an awesome choice. The Magne-Traction is a difference you will notice right away. I used this board on two trips to Powder Mountain Utah. The first trip was three days of wicked deep POW and this deck stayed afloat with no back leg burn-out. The second trip found the resort lacking significant snowfall and warm daytime temps. Together with freezing nighttime temps the runs were groomed and in a lot of cases icy. This deck bit into the ice like a hungry crock into a big dinner. No slip at all. I told my wife it was like it gave me an extra testicle. You can feel the deck chew into the ice from the center of your feet outward. It is AWESOME. Believe the stories and the advertising you will not be disappointed.
