Mountain Hardwear Trango 2

Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 Tent 2-Person 4-Season

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2008

I have only used this tent 1 time so far for a short backpacking trip but thought I would at least express my first thoughts... The conditions over the 3 day trip were Snowy, Windy and Sunny about 10 F-35 F. Although weight is typically the first concern about this tent for a lot of folks...it was not really an issue since the tent was split with other backpacker. If you are a solo backpacker, then it may be a bit on the heavy side. Will be perfect for expedition basecamp however. It is very fast and easy to setup-tent, fly, stakes, and guy lines in under 20 mins-just tent and fly in under 5. Very durable and well constructed materials were used to manufacture this tent and it shows. The tent is roomy for 2 people about 5'10 in size. Fits 2 long Thermarest 4 just fine with some space. More than plenty of internal pockets to store gear-both along side of walls and overhead. The vestibule in front is large with 2 entrances which make it very nice for entering is snowy/windy conditions. Front vestibule is also large enough for cooking in stormy conditions. The back vestibule however, is small but is a perfect size for 2 pair of boots and 2 weekend packs. It seems not to be large enough enough for 2 weeklong packs although you could probably squeeze them in. No catch on any of the Zippers used. The tent has 2 doors. 1 in the front and 1 in the back. The doors can be left open for ventilation with just the door screen left closed (zippered), or you can close the door and the screen or just leave both screen and doors open for maximum airflow. The ties to hold back your doors could be more friendly for people that wear gloves. This makes it a bit hard to tie back with gloves on. The inside vent on ceiling of tent is great for airflow during evening. It also makes for good weather watching while inside the tent. The tent stays very warm at night with 2 people in it. Inside tent while moving a bit was around 55 F when it was 15 F outside. At night while sleeping it was about 32 F which was very comfortable those chilly conditions of 10F or below. My only complaint about this tent is...after an evening of sleeping with 2 people and the tent full closed up, there was condensation build up on side walls inside the tent and all over the outside of the tent. I was thinking the tent was going to remain dry INSIDE. Maybe I will try to adjust my evening venting and perhaps try other ways of guying out the tent to minimize condensation issues and maximize airflow without sacrificing the warmth inside the tent. Last--Great tent glow during the day for positive vibes when gloomy outside and even better when sun is shinning! Overall---I am very happy with this tent and would recommend this tent to anyone.
