Fits, but no support

Patagonia Active Sport High Impact Bra C/D - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 April 19, 2008

Returned it. Yes, my C/Ds fit in there, but there certainly is not enough support to consider this a "high impact" bra. It was comfy & fit well, but I expect more support in a $50 sports bra. I miss their much older (90s-early 2000s) C/D bras & haven't found anything quite comparable in comfort & support since...

Classic

MSR Blacklite Gourmet Cookset

Rating for this product: 4 April 17, 2008

Great price point & popular for good reason. It's not light, but it's durable & the non-stick finish is a must for the gourmet backcountry cookers out there. Heat is distributed fairly well & the textured bottom actually does decrease stove-slip. These are my favorite pot grips out there & I like the included sections of Packtowl- perfect size for quick cleanup. Overkill for the soloist, but the size is great for groups & shared cooking. After years with this set, I'm thinking about upgrading to something smaller/lighter for my solo trips- but the BlackLite frypan, grips & Packtowl will never be replaced!

Form + Function + US made= a rare beauty

Ibex Hooded Shak Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 15, 2008

I love the fact that this is an excellent and functional top that is still flattering; womanly seams give it some shape. (I will always pick function over form, so it's nice to own something that still looks acceptable in public, too) The hood is snug & fits under my helmet on super-cold days; admittedly it can get in the way with layering, but I didn't like the fit of the hoodless version nearly as much. Other bonuses: flat seams are delightful, washes well, made in the US & Ibex backs their stuff 100% so if you have any problems, just send it back!

Dig it.

Icebreaker Tornado 1/2 Zip Top Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2008

Wear it all the time from the hill to yoga to the bar... the fit is perfect (I don't like things tight, but I don't like 'em sloppy either.) I usually wear a large & same is true with this top; if you're going for an athletic fit, I might consider sizing down if you're between sizes. It is plenty long in the sleeves & torso & I dig the thumbies. The side pocket is a bonus-> useful when you need it, but otherwise you don't notice it. Admittedly, yes, it is still wool (I think Patagonia is the softest, but I do not like their fit at all.) so it's not as soft to the touch as some other base layers, but I can still wear it comfortably against my skin. Best part? No funk!

Great fabric, poor fit

Ibex Floe Softshell Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 February 5, 2008

I am not tall (5'6") & I wear a large, so I ignored the complaints about the short cut of this vest... but, I must agree- it is too short of a cut for me too. The arm holes were also cut pretty funny- lots of gaps. The fit is a shame, however, because I thought the fabric was great- exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully they can work on the styling a little for next season because this fabric has a lot of potential...

Nice fit, wish the zipper was longer

Icebreaker Upstate 1/4 Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 17, 2007

Fit is true to size & I liked feminine seams. I own a couple other Icebreaker tops & this was my favorite fit- just a little more flattering, I though. I wish I could find the exact same top in a 1/2 zip! I returned it solely because I decided I'm a 1/2 zip kinda gal, the 1/4 just isn't enough ventilation for me.

Nice top, not great w/ a pack

Icebreaker BodyFit260 Olympia Zip - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 17, 2007

Eh. I like a lot, but wouldn't say I love it. I am a fan of the wool, the nice high collar & the zipper length (it stops short of the "3rd breast effect"). Fit is true to size w/ nice long arms & body (I hate the cold draft you get with some of the cropped styles) It doesn't have seems for shaping, so it takes your shape- whatever that may be. My biggest complaint is the poorly thought out shoulder seems-> trendy stripes= double your chafing pleasure, so it's not great with a pack unless you have some layers underneath to protect your shoulders. The wool certainly isn't as soft as a lot of your synthetics, but I also wouldn't call it itchy. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could b/c without a pack it functions very well.

light n toasty

MontBell America, Inc. Ultralight Thermawrap Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 20, 2007

Love it. Pros: Warm, light & layers very well. Weighs in at 1/2 a pound & packs down smaller than my down vest. Very wind resistant & stays warm when wet. Cons: It has that "I'm wearing a trash bag" sound-- almost had me send the jacket back immediately, but I'm glad I decided to give 'er a try. Beware of Japanese sizing! I'm 5'6" & the sleeves are barely long enough. It also runs a little small overall. The "active" version would probably be ideal (worthy of that 5th star?) w/ the thumbies & stretch sides, but alas, it was not at the outlet so I couldn't use the 50% off coupon...

Mmmm, beefy.

Patagonia Primo Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2007

In a word: beefy. I'm starting to think these pants will last forever. Triple layer rump & knees & heavy-duty side zips. I love 'em & they've kept me warm & dry, but they are pretty heavy--> but that weight is also why they're so durable. They fit like most other Patagonia pants- a little snug in the waist & a little big in the hips for me, but their warranty & materials are top notch, so it's worth it. They are sized for some layering, so the size you wear in their other pants should be the same for these. I'm 5'6" & they're plenty long.
