I purchased a First Need water filter twelve years ago to take my wife on her first packpacking trip. Previously I had always relied on boiling my water and adding chlorine. This unit has worked faultlessly for twelve years. I am only replacing it now to insure that I have a backup for an extended backpacking trip. My fondest memory is a trip on the Pacific Crest Trail when I was unable to locate a stream or lake. We pumped pure sweet water from a mosquito infested mud pool that I had to enlarge in order to accumulate enough water to filter.
