Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 May 18, 2008

Very bright! The headlamp does come with batteries and it does have a tiltable housing. The tech specs must be from an older version. The hyperbright and superbright leds both have 3 brightness settings plus a strobe. Overall great headlamp. Only con is it does not come with a carrying case.

NEW VERSION UPDATED

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 May 16, 2008

The headlamp does have a tiltable housing and comes with batteries. The tech specs must be from a much older version. Headlamp is super bright! The hyperbright bulb and superbright leds both have 3 brightness settings and a strobe. So far the headlamp is the best buy. Only con is it does not come with a carrying case.

Petzl TacTikka Plus Headlamp

May 13, 2008

Does anyone know if the battery housing on the current tactikka plus still come off easily when bumped or pushing the on button? I've noticed a few people had complaints from 2006. Wondering if people that purchased in 2008 had the same problem. Thanks

Great pad

Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 October 19, 2007

My friend uses the Ridgerest size small to pack light and reduce weight. But too bad your calves down have no padding. So I got the Z-lite size regular which weighs a few ounces more but alteast its long enough to cover my entire body. It's also very simlar is size folded up compared to the Ridgerest size small. Z-Lite costs more but the full body coverage and similar folded up size is worth it.

A little too tight

Mountain Hardwear Convertible Pack Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 October 19, 2007

These pants look great but they're a little too tight for me. I have not used them and instead went with my TNF paramount converts. I like my pants a little loose when hiking.

Softshell and nothing more.

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 October 19, 2007

These look awesome. Got many compliments but wearing this alone with a t-shirt underneath won't keep you warm during the cold mornings of Yosemite. These do have drawstrings and tightening them will keep the wind out but might need a long sleeve, fleece, OR a hardshell to be nice a toasty. Wish they had pitzips to dump additional heat when hiking or climbing.

Decent shoes

The North Face Momentum Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 19, 2007

True fit, feels comfortable, and lightweight. Everyone was surprised that The North Face made shoes. The ventilation kept my sweaty feet surprisingly dry. Although the dirt will leak through the mesh after hiking for a few hours in loose dirt/sand. But I'm sure this goes for all shoes with mesh. Seems a little looser on the toe end. This caused some blistering or maybe my feet are just prone to blisters regardless of shoes.
