Backcountry.com Fresh Spring Corn Limited Edition T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's
March 11, 2008
Sleep in!? You've gotta start climbing at 6 or 7am to hit the top in time for the prime corn skiing! Around 10am or so I would say is ideal for most south-facing slopes. :-) I like the shirt but won't get it: I'm still in denial that winter is ending.

Great beacon
Pieps DSP Advanced Smart Transmitter
March 11, 2008
This is a great beacon. I was able to try it next to some other brands and personally found the Pieps easier to use, more intuitive, and great for multiple burials. I personally recommend the base model, since I don't have a lot of interest in pulling out my beacon to check the compass, temperature, or altitude when I can use a watch for that. With or without the upgrade, the Pieps is a solid beacon.

Worth every penny
Arc'teryx Knee Cap Adjustable Pads
March 11, 2008
These knee pads are amazing. They provide great protection and are extremely comfortable. The only time I remember that I'm wearing them is when I hit my knee on something and wonder why it didn't hurt. If you're looking for knee pads, look no further.

My favorite
Pieps DSP Smart Transmitter
March 11, 2008
I recently had an opportunity to do some beacon practice with the Pieps, Ortovox, and Tracker and the Pieps was far and away my favorite and what I ultimately decided to buy. It is great for multiple burials, very intuitive and easy to use. Hopefully you have a chance to try several brands before you buy one, but if not this is a very solid choice.

Hardshell pant nirvana
Cloudveil Koven Pant - Men's
October 24, 2007
If you've been shopping around for a hardshell pant, look no further. These pants are amazing. They have a great fit for a variety of body types. The waist is somewhat high, but not uncomfortably so and it just serves to keep the snow out better. The fabric has a softer, stretchier, more comfortable feel than comparable pants, but I feel invincible when I put them on. I don't think you'll find a better value in a hardshell pant. These are worth every penny.

Try before you buy
Mountain Hardwear Defiant Pant - Men's
October 24, 2007
I returned these pants because I didn't like the fit or materials. I usually wear a Men's M comfortably. These were tight at the waist and rode up, uncomfortably high in the crotch, if you take my meaning. Probably a Large would've fit better, but have been long in the leg. Better fit for a tall/slim figure. The suspender straps were uncomfortable. All four attachments are in the front, go over the shoulder and wrap back around. Finally, I didn't love the feel of the mesh. I'd say try before you buy. If the pant fits you and you like the mesh, go with it.
