Essential gear for wet weather
Columbia Calypso Creek Pant - Women's
March 29, 2007
These pants live up to their advertising--I traipsed through a Houston deluge wearing them and stayed perfectly dry. I bought them slightly too big so I can wear them over other pairs of pants with no problems, so they were slightly loose but still looked good and felt fine. One tip: make sure you pull the drawstrings tight at the bottom to keep water out before actually running through puddles! After a while, they did get a little warm, but this is to be expected with waterproof (and therefore, less breathable) gear.

Slightly clingy but still comfortable
SmartWool Limit Top - Women's
March 29, 2007
I got this shirt with the goal of wearing it while hiking in England in the summer, so I needed something that would be light and breathable but wouldn't be bad as a base layer in colder weather either. I haven't worn the shirt much yet, but it was quite breathable when I wore it in the tropics--not something I would expect from a woolen shirt! The only thing I don't really like about the shirt is the places that it clings in, but I'm sure when I've been hiking for long enough I won't care about that!

Great piece of gear to own.
CamelBak Classic Hydration Pack - 2L
March 20, 2007
I love this Camelbak. I never realized how easy it could be to take water on the move, and I pretty much take it everywhere with me, whether its touring around the rain forests of Puerto Rico or just exercising at the gym. I'm sure it will come in handy on the long hikes I plan on doing this summer, because I won't have to stop to drink out of a water bottle, yet I'll still stay hydrated.
