fantastic base layer

Arc'teryx Rho SL Crew Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 8, 2007

This is a great first layer, its ultra thin so its good for warm ski days, or sunny days backpacking where you need a long sleeve but don't want to get too hot. It dries quickly too. I recently took this shirt backpacking and wore it as my only top layer on a sunny but windy day. What surprised me the most is that when our trail became extremely overgrown and I was having to push my way through tall scrub and branches, the rho sl never snagged. After bushwhacking for quite some time the rho sl came out looking like new.

Great lightweight boots!

Vasque Breeze XCR Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2007

LOVE these boots. Super comfortable and lightweight. After little break-in they performed fantastically on a 12 and then a 13 mile hike. Also did a light overnight trip using these and they were very comfortable and supportive. My feet have never felt so good after such long hikes.

new favorite piece!

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2007

These are my favorite piece of gear clothing! The fleece lining feels great against your legs and provides great warmth. The gusseted crotch provides excellent mobility scrambling, or going over downed logs. I've hiked in these on a cold rainy day and they worked great, never even had to throw on waterproof shell pants, the water just beaded off these pants. They also make excellent spring ski pants, just did two days skiing in these and fell in love with them all over.

favorite ski base layer

Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2007

This has got to be the softest base layer I've owned for skiing. It's so comfortable I don't even want to take it off after skiing. I love the chest zip pocket, don't think I've ever used it, but I love how it looks.

the lightweight fleece to own

Arc'teryx Delta LT Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2007

Arc'teryx does it again, making this my favorite lightweight fleece. It's soft and comfortable and the gusseted arms give you great mobility. It has great warmth for being so thin, so its great to take skiing, or backpacking when you need an extra layer for those cold nights.

Arc'teryx top quality

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2007

This is a fantastic jacket, super waterproof and windproof. Its not only functional but stylish as well. I use this jacket for skiing, winter hiking, and backpacking. It's pretty lightweight for such a feature heavy jacket as well. The stowaway hood is nice, at first I thought the hood in its stowed position might be annoying against my neck, as you can feel it at first. But once it was stowed and I went on with my activities I never even noticed it. My only small concern is the zipper flap on the inside of the jacket at the top. Its rather large, and while it has a soft fleece feel it is also very stiff. This can sometimes poke out and hit your chin, but its only sometimes and pretty minor. Not a big enough deal to where I would not buy the jacket again, but it is something maybe arc'teryx can revist on the next generation of this jacket. Having the zipper go to the side is super cool though.

great idea, flawed design

Marmot Kaba Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 February 6, 2007

I was initially intrigued by this fleece jacket because it had pit zips, I figured that would be a nice to have. Unfortunately I ended up returning the jacket because the zippers for the pit zips were very large and you could feel them under your arms. It felt as the sleeves had some wires going under your arms, and your arms didn't feel relaxed at your sides. A fleece should be comfortable and soft and this felt a bit awkward. I think marmot should have invested in some very small and very flexible zippers and then this fleece would have been fine.

cool vest

Mountain Hardwear Downtown Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 6, 2007

This is a great looking vest that packs great warmth. I love it so much I even wear it to work. Fits nicely under my shell to keep me warm while out in the winter elements. The cut of this vest is really nice, its a more fitted cut so it looks stylish, but also keeps it close to your body for warmth. The fleece lined pockets are my favorite, makes you want to warm your hands in there all the time.

Great Fleece Jacket

Arc'teryx Accomplice Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2007

Superb quality, fit and very stylish. The quality is great, you can tell right away this jacket will last a long time. Its very light and thin, but surprisingly warm for its thinness. WindStopper fabric helps it keep the wind out, and the inside is super soft fleece. Its a great cut that looks as good as it performs. I have to cobalt color and its really beautiful, lighter and bluer then the pics on this site show. Recently took this on a backpacking trip and it worked great as a midlayer at night and as my outer layer during the day hiking, I never wanted to take it off.
