Great Knife
CRKT K.I.S.S. Knife
April 21, 2008
I have had mine over a year. I sharpen it with a diamond file, and the black paint has worn off. Holds an edge very well, and sharpens well as well. Blade is 5500K. I use it daily to open boxes, cut through ropes, etc... Also handy on a hike as it weighs close to nothing.

Does not pack well
Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Deluxe Sleeping Pad
April 15, 2008
I have a huge Gregory back, and could not fit this inside the pack. I ended up tying it to the outside, but lost it when crossing one of the mountain streams in heavy rain. It also used to get caught on the brush and trees. It was comfortable to sleep on while I had it, but I ended up buying the Therm-a-Rest Z-lite sleeping pad instead. The square shape and smaller size made it easier to attach to the bottom of my backpack.

Very Unique
Patagonia Footwear Cedar Shoe - Men's
April 15, 2008
This is by far the most unique shoe that I have every purchased, and not entirely what I expected. The shoe is made up of two separate, removable, parts. The outside shell is the leather upper and latex sole. The latex is about 1/8" thick, and offers no cushioning. It is completely water proof, and weighs nothing. The honeycomb pattern acts essentially as tiny suction cups, and the traction is amazing. The leather took roughly 30 miles of walking to break in, but that is very reasonable for leather shoes. I have bony feet in general. The second part of the shoe is the insert, arround an inch at the thickest part. It again weighs nothing, and provides all of the cushioning. Theoretically you could replace the shoe insert with another patagonia one, or a similar product. I work in a cement construction building where all of the flours are poured concrete. The shoes feel much better than work boots or dress shoes. These shoes are more comfortable than any other dress shoes/work shoes that I own, but not as comfortable as sneakers. That is why I gave them only four stars.

Great socks
SmartWool Trekking Heavy Crew Socks
April 15, 2008
I always had a problem skating with cotton socks where my skates would rub in certain spots, and my toes would freeze. Then I bought these socks, and it did the trick. Keeps my feet warm, while providing great cushioning against my skates. I also used them on some cold weather hikes, or simply wearing them in the house when the floors are cold. My boots are insulated, so they are a little too warm for the general hike.
