Classic Shell

Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 10, 2008

I would consider this to be one of the classic pieces of gear that Mountain Hardwear has ever made. It's durable, warm, and a great true fit. I've found that I needed to size up on a couple of pieces from MHW, but this one seems to be constructed true to size. Don't size up on this one as it has been made for layering.

Beware of Sizing

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 10, 2008

I consider myself a little biased when reviewing products, because Mountain Hardwear is my trusted brand for gear. This jacket is the latest addition to my large collection of MHW gear. I just got this jacket and luckily I had tried it on at a store before I bought it. I found that this jacket, along with the other softshells from MHW available at this particular store that I was at, were sized differently than other products from MHW. I'm 6'1" 190 lbs. and normally size L fits me perfectly, but in this jacket it was way too short. The fit of the L on me was ok, maybe a little on the snug side, but I simply could not put up with a jacket that short. I tried on the XL, and the length was perfect, but the body was a little loose. I suppose a little room in the torso area is ok for layering. If considering this jacket, visit your local outdoor gear provider that stocks this jacket to get a true fit before you buy. Other than sizing, the jacket seems to be a very well-constructed piece of clothing. It's got a nice design, fleece lining is fantastic, and roomy hand pockets. Chest pocket is rather small...I'm not really sure if it's truly needed.

Another Great Product From Mountain Hardwear

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 10, 2008

The Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket is a great part of the MHW line of products. I live in Colorado where temps can get way down there. I haven't had the chance to test this jacket out in sub zero conditions, but it kept me nice and toasty at about 15 degrees the other night when my wife and I took the dogs for a walk. The hood is definitely a must. I used to have the Sub Zero Jacket but traded up for this one and I am very happy with the addition of the hood, plus it zips off easily if you don't feel like having it attached. The jacket is noticeably puffier than the Sub Zero Jacket, however the fill near the elbows does seem to disburse into other areas when resting your elbows on hard surfaces. A couple of notable things for those thinking about buying this jacket is that it doesn't really need the dual zipper and it is a pain every now and then. Also, I'm 6'1" 190 lbs. and I went with the XL. I had the L in the Sub Zero without the hood and wasn't satisfied with the length in the back. When leaning over the back would lift over my waist sometimes exposing skin in cold conditions. Take mine and others' advise on sizing up for this jacket, you will appreciate it. All in all I love this jacket...I just wish it was available in the same colors as the Sub Zero.
