Snoops Shred and Float

Atomic Snoop Daddy Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 December 2, 2006

I finally got the chance to ski my new snoops yesterday. I went up for this purpose alone, with a law school final the next day, because I just couldn't wait. My review is provisional, and comes with two caveats. First, the conditions were not ideal - there was over a foot of new snow, but it was not exactly light and got progressively heavier as the unfortunate freezing level rose above the base of the mountain. Two, I am 5 foot 7 and 130 pounds - so any commentary about float should be tempered by my small stature. Overall, I found the skis amazing. They are so light - and I mounted Silvretta Pure Freerides to them, so they would be wicked light. I indulged in a couple grabs with ease. They are also very quick, and demand an aggressive technique, which I love and expect from Atomic. On that note, carving the ski on groomed snow require a ton of forward pressure and direct side lean, which was different from my other skis but satisfying for what they are. The snoops also floated me like no other. In the medium-heavy snow I was skiing, I could just stand straight up and they would stay on top, which was luxurious. In looking forward to skiing them more, I am excited about skiing in some lighter snow, getting some bigger air, and trekking them a bit backcountry. I also want to check them out in the moguls, since they are so light and quick. I didn't get a sense for the flex of the ski, however, so I can't comment on that just yet. Overall, I am very pleased, but I think a better review is yet to come when I am able to unleash them on a proper day at the mountain....more to come.
