Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Deluxe Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2006

After using the Thermarest R4 for two seasons and the Ridge Rest for one. I am sold on the ridge rest for winter ascents. Warmer overall because it keeps you off the snow. Insulation to weight factor seems to be more favorable. No inflation worries. The only down side is the bulk which must be carried on the out side of pack. I will deal with that and consider it worth it for the added comfort.

Works well in wind and snow. Used it to strike flame on my Dragonfly stove. The cord that holds the metal to the striker could be a little longer for use with gloved hands.

Max Performance

Black Diamond Gradient Trekking Poles - 1 pair

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2006

Worked very well for winter ascent. Point really grabs on ice and rock. I allowed all of my weight to fall on them over and over on descent without worry of failure. They are my first choice for a snow picket at elevation. Best poles I have ever used. Half baskets are also impressive when humping a heavy pack on the uphill. The carbide tips make them unsuited to city, park use but are great in the back county. Large adjustable straps fit well over cold weather gloves.
