Awesome little lantern

Snow Peak GigaPower Lantern, Auto Ignition

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

This is a perfect little lantern for all camping needs. As another reviewer pointed out, this is not a 200 watt mega-bright monster but then again, who really cares? It's tiny! With Snow Peak, it's all about the details. I love the carrying case, the little metal serial number tag attached to the lamp, the feel of the valve...

Arc'teryx Operative T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

This is my most favorite t-shirt in my closet! If people at work wouldn't notice, I would buy seven of these and wear them every day. As it stands, this shirt (I have the blue) is one of the first things to go into the washer each week. It's soft , cool, and fast-drying but without the weird feel of their synthetic shirts. I only wish they would make these in more everyday colors.

My favorite article of clothing

Arc'teryx Delta LT Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2007

I bought this pullover about a month ago and the only time I take it off is when I sleep. I'm going to have to buy a couple more in other colors so I don't look like I only own one shirt. Like other reviewers have pointed out, it's insanely warm for how thin it is. The inverse waffle pattern of the pile does wonders.

Very pleased

La Sportiva Exum River Canyoneering Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2006

I bought these shoes for a canyoneering trip to Moab that I took last weekend. I took them on a route through Fiery Furnace and then up to the top of Elephant Butte. The next day, we did a long hike past Corona Arch and then up a neighboring canyon. Overall, I'm very happy with these shoes. They are as comfortable to hike in as any trail running shoe and they shed water quickly, as a proper canyoneering shoe should. The downside? The rubber compound does not seem well-suited to temperatures below about 45 degrees. They didn't grip as well in the icy morning but did a lot better when the day warmed up. This problem may have been compounded by the shoes being so new and the soles not being fully broken in. This issue does not worry me. Great shoe, highly recommended.

Big Pimpin!

Therm-a-Rest Dream Time Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2006

I can't say enough about this sleeping pad. If you don't mind the bulk (and who cares about bulk when you're car camping), there's simply no better sleeping pad that will fit inside a tent. I've taken mine to Moab and slept like a champ even though the ground underneath the tent was covered with bumpy gravel. Last weekend, I went back there with friends and got stuck on a fold-out couch bed. I threw my Dream Time pad on the crappy mattress and slept as good as my buddies sleeping on the real beds. Highly recommended.

Comfy!

Ambler Teton Knit Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2006

I love my Ambler beanie, even though it's not really a beanie. This hat keeps my ears toasty and does it with style. You can't hear very well with it on but that's probably a testament to it's insulating powers. Highly recommended.

The North Face Translution Long-Sleeve Tek Tee - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2006

I bought one of these shirts for my canyoneering trip to Moab, Utah last weekend. It performed wonderfully. The temperatures ranged from around freezing to the 50s that day. It made a nice base layer in the cold morning and wicked sweat quite well when things warmed up a little and the climbs got more strenuous. This shirt seems well-made and did not get destroyed by the abrasive sandstone in the two days that I used it.

Bomber!

Marmot Invincible Performance Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2006

I bought these pants for a canyoneering trip to Moab that I took last weekend. They were part of a large order that I placed on this site last week and I'm happy to say that these were the very best purchase of the lot. They stood up to the abrasive sandstone and kept my butt and knees free of scabs. I wish my hands fared so well! The pants were very comfortable and the smooth fabric made them easy to un-bunch after I put my harness on. The temperatures ranged from around freezing to the 50s that weekend, with lots of wind, and they my legs warm enough. They dried quickly after being submerged in icy "potholes". The most amazing thing about these pants? After an entire weekend of hard wear, they look brand new. There's not a spot of dirt on them. I'm not sure how Marmot does it but these things stay clean-looking. The downsides? The pockets are a little weird and take getting used to. The belt and buckle kind of suck and tended to loosen when worn under a harness.

Good value, great battery!

Petzl 4.5 Volt Battery For Zoom Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 May 30, 2006

I love my old Petzl Zoom because of these batteries. They seem to last forever—much, much longer than lamps that use AA batteries. I keep a couple of these in my truck for emergencies. You can't beat the price here, either. The battery is much cheaper here than it is locally.

The Perfect Sock

Lorpen Antibacterial Ski Socks

Rating for this product: 5 March 15, 2006

I really love my SANP socks. They retain no moisture and cling to my feet perfectly without bunching up like the rest of my socks. I had custom Surefoot insoles made for my Garmont Ener-G tele boots (Surefoot rules), and these socks work perfectly with my newly-fitted boots. I didn't need insulation, as my boot liners take care of that. If you have custom insoles, a thick insulating sock will not give you a proper and consistent fit. The SANP socks, however, were just what I needed.

Spy Targa 2 Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 February 19, 2006

I took these goggles out for their trial runs today. It dumped loads of Utah powder all morning, yet my eyes stayed perfectly warm and my vision, crystal clear. I'm a beginner telemarker who skied stuff way over his head today and I took three full-on face plants in deep powder. One of these was at speed. Amazingly, incredibly, these goggles did not break, ice over, or even so much as fog up during all of this. What a deal!
