Comfort

Darn Tough Merino Wool Micro Crew Hiking Sock

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2008

Let me start by saying that I bought three pairs of these socks based on other people's reviews so I was not expecting these to be the most comfortable socks I have ever owned. These are worth the money and are very comfortable.

Kelty Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 July 31, 2007

For the price a great buy. I purchased the REI Quarter dome for more than double the price of the Grand Mesa and returned it. Quarter dome is a few ounces lighter but Mesa held up. On the first day on the A.T. my partner having decided that he would bring only a queen size sheet for his bedding. Temp. dropped to 50 deg. and he used the rain fly as a bivy until it started raining at which point we reattached the fly to the tent and waited out a four hour rain - no leaks, no moisture, dried quickly, etc... Great buy for a hundy! Rated a 4 because there are lighter tents out there.

Beware the dishwasher

Nalgene Lexan Wide Mouth Water Bottle - 32oz DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 July 31, 2007

Nalgene is a miracle bottle. But, beware the dishwasher. Virtually indestructible with one weakness, the cap. Everyone I came in contact with on the A.T. had to replace the cap due to meltdown in dishwasher. Expensive when you compare to a Gatorade bottle. Can pour boiling water into... Great piece of equipment.

luxury item

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Footprint

Rating for this product: 4 July 31, 2007

Great piece of equipment if you can spend the dough. A piece of Tyvek will suffice but if money is not problem a must have. I used this on the A.T. as a footprint and as a bottom sheet in a shelter. Will preserve the life of your tent and VERY easy to set up. Make sure, if you make your own, to cut just inside the dim. of your tent too big and the moisture is drawn under the tent. Rated a 4 because of the price. A piece of Plastic will cost about $5
