My head is too small
Mountain Hardwear Tangle Dome - Women's
January 13, 2007
I love the hat but it has too much volume. I typically wear a women's small for helmets & hats but I gave this a shot because it looked so good on my co-worker. I still wear it at home and on walks with my dogs (they don't care I look funny). It's soft, warm and itch-free. It also has a loose knit to it so it's very comfortable, I can wear it all day.

Nixon The Mini GTO Watch - Women's
December 7, 2006
I bought this Nixon watch after seeing how good it looked on someone else. I get lots of compliments, it's solid. Just one little ding, it's heavier than I thought. I don't wear watches often (life is better without schedules) so I have about a 4-hour limit and off it goes. If I have to keep it on I turn it around so the face is on the inside of my wrist.

Bridgedale Endurance Trekker Sock - Women's
December 7, 2006
I bought one pair. Loved them. Bought 6 more pairs. I find them the perfect weight for all-around wear for fall, winter, spring. A little too warm for me for summer unless it's a cool mountain evening.

Makes Me Want to Camp
Marmot Teton Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down - Women's
December 7, 2006
I'm 5'10" and the long fits perfect. I've never had trouble staying warm in this bag, if anything I've got a foot out trying to balance the heat. In the mornings I zip it around my head & stay toasty warm. The outside material is soft and comfy on my skin, to me it's as good as a spa treatment as I kick back & check out the stars. I like the little pocket. It packs easily into my Osprey pack & it's very light.

Built Tough & Lightweight
Jansport Sport Duffel
December 7, 2006
I was looking for that weekend duffle for a quick trip that kept me from taking too much gear. This is it. I love the inside pocket for dirty or wet clothes. The zippers and stiching are solid & easy to grab. I like the orange, it's easy to find at the airport. A few pockets are padded with extra support, I put glasses in them without a case and they didn't break on the plane. A pair of shoes fits easily on one end. A little too big for a trip to the gym.

SmartWool Running Ultra Light Mini Crew
December 7, 2006
I love to grab these socks, it sucks when they're dirty. They're my favorite summer or indoor blue-collar sock. They work, work, work. No fancy frills, they just do their job. The logo is cute, looks like I have a little friend on my foot.

Keeps Feeling and Looking New
KEEN Targhee Light Hiker - Women's
December 7, 2006
I'm not sure what's on the outside of these shoes but they seem to resist mud & slush and keep looking new. I would describe these as "solid" and comfortable. They're a tiny on the stiff side for my preference but that will probably help them last a long time. All my Keen shoes are tough and long-lasting. Great value.

They Do Their Job & They Hold Up Too
X-Socks Light Trekking Sock - Women's
December 7, 2006
I've had these for months and they are holding up great. My feet are narrow, these fit like a glove. They wick well. I like to wear them with lighter shoes like my road running shoes. If I'm grabbing socks to just wear around, these aren't the ones because they don't have that loose & snuggly sit by the t.v. feel. They're my performance socks for when I'm active and I don't want my socks full of sweat or bunching up.

Can't Go Wrong When The Snow is Right
K2 Dawn Patrol Telemark Ski - Women's
December 7, 2006
When it's a powder day I have a super tough time taking these K2 boards off my feet. Clear your afternoons so you can just keep skiing, they are just plain fun, fun, fun. I'm pretty mellow and I find myself hootin' down hills. When others ski up your stash & the sun comes out, they still perform pretty well in the crud because of the nice sidecut and flex in the ski. It's not my all-around ski, I pull these out for those days we all dream about.

Granite Gear The Flyer
November 10, 2006
I bought this for a Frisbee. It's a little heavy for my dog (he's a 50 pounder) but he figures it out. He typically chews the heck out of Frisbees in no time but this one is holding up. I have used it to sit on, etc. but you have to be a dog person who doesn't care about a little dog slime. I'd recommend this for stronger, heavier dogs so they don't hurt their mouths trying to get it in the air. It's a little heavy.

The North Face Apex Zip Shirt - Women's
September 5, 2006
This shirt/jacket is the perfect mid-layer-to-lightweight shirt/jacket that can almost be justified whenever you want to wear it. I have layer issues with the weather, this one saves a lot of decision-making time. The neck is very soft and comfortable, the material is barely noticeable and light.

Powder Mountain Logo Beanie
September 5, 2006
I have a small women's head so I thought this was going to be too big. But it looked cool so I tried. Sure enough, too much volume on top for me. But hey, my brother-in-law scored a new hat and he loved it.

light, super light
Helly Hansen Versa Trailwizard Short-Sleeve Shirt - Women's
September 5, 2006
If you like light and dry it doesn't get much better. It's thin material so it's really for working out in, not working around the house. I'm tempted to wear it casually since I like the styling, but I don't want to wear it out. I save it for the long hikes and runs when I want to feel like I'm in the outdoors naked.

Contourwear Zip Off Pant 2 - Women's
August 31, 2006
I like the waistband and features on these pants. There is a small pocket on the side I can slip my razor phone and cash into. The buttons in front are stylish, not boring. The material has a ton of bang for the buck, great for active women. I work in a "mountain casual" office and these fit in there as well as the outdoors. I have a runner's build with slim hips and had to go down one size for the waist (no belt loops). Perfect for trips.

Lolė Breezy Polo Shirt Short-Sleeve - Women's
August 22, 2006
If you're looking for a shirt that you won't need to change throughout the day, this is it. It's ready for any activity and is very light and cool when it's very hot out. It has that golf course clubhouse look even after working out. Nice professional styling. I love this brand. The blue is very rich in color. Typically I'm between a medium or large depending on the brand. I went w/the large and it fits just a little loose making it very comfortable.

Nice cut
Arc'teryx Gamut Short - Women's
August 22, 2006
These have great styling, I really like the zipper cut. The material looks great, just what I would expect from Arc'teryx. They aren't too long or too short, a comfortable normal length. It takes a little while to adjust to pockets on the side, I tend not to use them too much. It's a little uncomfortable to have keys, etc. on the side of my legs.

Looks good but tight
Marmot Horizon Polo Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's
July 11, 2006
I bought a large, but after washing, I'm sure glad it's stretch material. If you like the tight look, then it's very comfy as far as tight goes. It creeps up on my waist, which is a little uncomfortable for me. I find myself pulling it down. Nice styling.

Contourwear Zip Up Blouse Long-Sleeve - Women's
June 30, 2006
I really like how this blouse is cut (relatively slender) along with the material. Its simplicity in color (for easy matching) is balanced well with expensive material that is perfect for traveling or the office. It does a nice job of not showing any major wrinkles after multiple days of wearing. The scotch guard protects it from stains, but I haven't tested that yet.

Mountain Khakis Teton Twill Pant - Women's
May 15, 2006
The more I wash these, the better they get. They were a little stiff at first. There is a little more hip room than I need, but theyre better that way than too snug.

Rugged and comfortable
Mountain Khakis Alpine Pant - Women's
May 12, 2006
This is the quality work pant I expected without the compromised guy-pant feel. I have narrow hips, so I appreciated the button cinch on the waist to make them a little thinner. The legs are loose-fitting and comfortable but not too wide. Mine came in a tightly wrapped plastic and I accidentally cut the pant while opening. I'd never return them though, I think it adds to the look.

Mary Janes Farm Organic Breakfast Frittatas
May 2, 2006
These were very good and healthy, but I guess I'm not a huge gourmet in the outdoors. I craved for basic buttermilk. If you like a more fancy breakfast, others in camp enjoyed. However, we all agreed they would be better w/a little syrup or fruit. They're dry (but tasty) alone.

Nice little extras
MSR Packtowl UltraLite
May 2, 2006
I went with a size large since it's so light. That was slick for a quick dip (plenty large) but I missed having a small one that would be more convenient for a quick face wash, etc. I loved the little bag it comes in, keeps it separate and compact and the grimy things off of it. I also liked the snap hook that is on it so I could loop it around a tent pole for drying.

Don't go without
Kelty Crestone 2 Footprint
May 2, 2006
I used my tent a year before I bought the footprint. Bad move. It makes putting the tent up so much easier since all the snaps and grommets have homes and the footprint helps hold everything in place. Not to mention less worries when it rains.

Fills You Up
ProBar Original Blend
May 2, 2006
When I bonk, I bonk. These bars fill me up faster than any bar I've bought. They are easy to chew which I appreciate. They are full of a zillion healthy-looking items it blurs your eyes to inspect carefully. My only comment is spread out the goodness. Too many too fast dulls a good thing.

Great back up
MSR Dromedary Bags
April 6, 2006
I bought for a desert canyons backpack trip. I was glad I did. It rained so the water available was murky for filtering one day. I'd suggest rinsing it a few times to clean out the initial material taste. I laid it flat across the top of my back to keep it from sloshing and the pack evenly weighted. Once in camp, set it on a slightly angled rock and it pours right out. There are three flow adjustments- a small nozzle in the camp (super slow & precise), a heavy faucet flow if you take the nozzle off and a dump it all out fast flow if you remove the main filling spout. The smallest nozzle is the easiest to use but you need patience.

Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan - Men's
March 10, 2006
This is a great jacket. Great fit. Very well made. These types of fleece jackets tend to feel baggy on me but not the Covert Cardigan. I plan on getting others in different colors.

Very warm and Cozy
Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket - Men's
March 10, 2006
A friend had one of these. I tried it on and had to have one myself. It is very light weight (it feels like I am wearing a cloud) and fits nicely. Packs down super small for travel and hiking. I walked in 3F semi-humid weather and was toasty. If there is a strong wind I recommend some kind of shell. Mountain Hardwear makes a good one.

Just right
Mountain Hardwear Womanticore Jacket - Women's
December 30, 2005
This jacket is just right if you're actively moving outdoors. I typically wear it over a mid-layer like my R2 or Apache AR Zip and it's been comfortable down to zero degrees. Bring on the wind and snow. The design and cut make your hips look narrow. I have wider (swimming) shoulders and this jacket wasn't constricting. Just don't stand around or you'll miss out on why it's so good.

Should be a 5
Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket - Women's
December 30, 2005
This jacket should get a 5 rating, but I just can't stop laughing from the zipper cords on my chest. Were they trying to use pasties? Wiggle a lot when you ski for even more giggles. The pull cord for the waist is tricky with gloves on. Other than that the jacket does everything and more. If you find yourself in-between sizes, I'd recommend going larger with this jacket.

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Jacket - Women's
December 30, 2005
One of my best new gear pieces of the year. I've been wearing it with just a baselayer (it's tight in the arms if I put anything thick under it). I love it for 20-40F hiking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing. I'm getting tired of the "layered" clothing planning and this has me covered without thinking whether it's raining, snowing, windy or sunny. It breathes very well even though the material looks like it's made from recycled tires. I picked the guava color, and I get a lot of compliments.

Bridgedale Impact Sock

Some women are into shoes but personally I think it's all about the sock. I have a narrow foot and these socks contour well and never bunch up or bother me. They hold up well through lots of hikes and washings.

prAna Kharma Jacket - Women's
October 26, 2005
This jacket is very snug, warm, great-looking and versatile. I wear it over a t-shirt with jeans or with a nice outfit and it is always a perfect addition. I prefer to have just a few items in my closet that I can mix around. This is one of those perfect pieces.

Montrail Hardrock Trail Running Shoe - Womens
October 17, 2005
I wore these shoes straight from the box for the 175-mile Wasatch Back Relay. Montrail did an outstanding job balancing comfort with stability. I have other shoes that are lighter but I find myself choosing these shoes every time; even for road running. I really like the hard toe bumper and felt no more pain when I kick those trail ruts. They are holding up well after a long summer of running.
