I have the Dome 5 and it is great in the rain. I will be in the snow in a couple of weeks and have an update but have no worries about it providing a secure dry space. As for setting up, it takes a while there is a spider connection of short poles at the top, along with numerous poles and stakes to secure. When you setup the tent there is no floor. There is a separate section with the floor you have to setup from the inside with many, many little hooks which must be secured and very time consuming and a big pain. I leave these sections together but you still have the initial setup. The one issue I have is the spider, if you are not careful setting up you can damage this top section fairly easy, especially on the first setup. By this I mean if you connect a pole in the wrong spot (easier than you think) you can damage the spider. I fell a sleep with just the screens closed and the doors open. It started raining for hours and not a drop of water was in the tent when I woke up, amazing. As far as 5 people I am not that close to my male friends and I would say 3 comfortably. I am 5'8" and cannot stand up in the tent so if that is important to you look at the canvas tents. Final note, if you are camping in the wind and do not stake this tent down it will spin off like a flying saucer so don't be lazy like I was the first time. Lastly this tent was a gift and no way would I pay the price unless I was going on an expedition or something of that sort. I have a Springbar canvas tent that is the greatest except it is canvas and when it gets wet it takes a while to dry and heavy as hell. These two tents are my choices when I camp and I am retired and camp 5 to 17 days at a time year round. Hope this has helped.
