Nice shirt but order one size bigger

I'm 5'9, 150lbs and ordered the medium. The size chart says medium fits chest size 39-41 (I'm a 38) but this shirt was too small for me. It fit tight around the torso and it is quite short. I have MH jackets in medium that fit just fine so I'm not sure what's up with the shirt sizing. I'll be returning this shirt for a large.
