Werner Camano 2-Piece Paddle - Fiberglass Blades/Straight Shaft

Very Good For Touring

By Ranked #122 - Paddles May 30, 2008

This is my second Camano, my original having been scarfed up by the GF. This paddle excels as a low to medium angle touring paddle. It feels very light, both at rest and while paddling and the fiberglass blades are much stronger than they look. The dihedral on this paddle is quite low, making them very forgiving on both power strokes and bracing. Those big blades also make rolling quite easy.

I find the overall stiffness of the paddle just right for touring -- stiff enough to be effecient while having just enough give to be comfortable in rough weather.

Werner markets the Camano as low to medium angle and that is the style it likes. It doesn't feel comfortable with a high attack angle. I believe that those who like that style would be better off with a different model.

With this paddle, I recommend that you go on the long end of your normal size range. I went with the 230 even though I'm 5'8 and have a 23 inch boat. The long length seems to complement the medium cadence an attack angle that work to this paddle's "sweet spot".

The adjustable feather seems like just a marketing gimmick but it comes in handy. I normally keep it at the standard 60 degree feather but cut it down to 45 in winds above 20 knots.
