Ranked #6 - Laptop Packs and Bags
May 21, 2008
I've always had trouble finding a back pack that can do it all. I like the outdoors, I play lots of sports, but I'm also a big geek (or, more specifically, a computer engineer). Having a backpack that can fit anything I need to bring with me is no problem until it comes to the laptop I haul with me.
Most laptops can fit in most backpacks, but a large laptop with high end specs capable of gaming will bring down a list of viable backpacks very quickly. I myself found only half a dozen backpacks that could fit my Dell XPS laptop in it, and even fewer that were more than simply 'laptop bags with shoulder straps'.
Fortunately The North Face Sure Shot has enough room to fit my laptop in it (albeit not in the built-in laptop sleeve -my own neoprene sleeve was needed) and can be used for anything else needed. It's large enough to hold textbooks & binders, has pockets designed for electronics, great padding on the back and straps, and a waist and chest strap for really heavy loads. The best part is that it looks the part for all jobs. It doesn't look so hefty that it's ready to be used by a Sherpa to scale everest, nor does it look like it never sees grass and dirt.
The Sure Shot has been skiing with me, traveled across North America, gone to class with me, and more. Hands down the best backpack I've used yet.
