"The only shoe that lasts me more than three months" - Review of Montrail Comp XCR Hiking Boot - Men's

A little background: I do motion picture lighting (lighting for feature films & commercials) my job requires me to be on my feet long hours on varied terrain. We shoot anywhere from mountaintops to muddy farms and corporate boardrooms. Most days I'm climbing some sort of structure to rig a light off of. I also skateboard (quickest form of transportation to and from set). So you see that I require a lot from my shoes. The Montrail Comp XCR's are the only shoe that has lasted me more than three months! In fact I got TWO YEARS out of my first pair! I wore them everyday in rain, snow, mud, you name it... By the time the sole finally wore through from skating the top portion of the shoe still didn't have the typical blow-outs of other shoes. I tried having them re-soled, but unfortunately that was a waste of money as the new soles didn't last more than a month. Thus I needed a new pair of shoes but could no longer find The Montrail Comp XCR's at any of my local stores. I did a little research online and found the Gramont XCR to be alot of magazine editors "top pick". What a joke! They lasted me three months... I blew holes in the soles at the heels and in the sides of the toe box. Luckily I had a little time off and used Google product search and ended up at Backcountry.com I bought two pairs just in case Montrail is no longer making the Comp XCR two years from now when I needed my next pair... By the way the Comp XCR's are super comfortable all day long. The rubber is great for scrambling up the sides of buildings (or bouldering if you have the chance) They're super waterproof too, I've stood in spring snow all day and been completely dry (also crossed the occasional stream while hiking). So, in conclusion, if you tend to be hard on your shoes and can stand wearing the same shoe two years from now, buy the Montrail Comp XCR. If you're not hard on your shoes buy the Montrail Comp XCR and it will probably last a lifetime..Happy hiking...
