I got my first pair as I prepared for my NOLS trip back in 1997. Of course everyone else showed up with their own pair. But for a month in the Winds and many more trips after that, these shorts did the job. Maybe not the best-looking short in the world, but for any type of hiking trip of any length, this is a great short. It's kind of fun to see what colors people will have.
