These boots are horrible...

Ranked #498 - Men's Hiking Boots

I am in the military and purchased a pair for use in the mountains of Afghanistan. I had 3 weeks to break them in. I carried a 80lb pack for 8 miles the first day. Then ran 6 miles the next 2 days. Regular army issue boots are better than these. These boots were hot and sweaty. I never get blisters, because I put on so much mileage during the week, but these boots caused hot spots the first day and then blisters the second day on the back of my heels. I know they probably aren't made for running but neither are my army boots and other civilian hiking boots that I run in regularly. To make all this worse, I inspected the boots tonight and noticed the sole is separating from the shoe under my right big toe and under my left little toe. I can stick my index finger up to the first joint into the separation. I wore Asolo boots for a long time years ago before I was in the military. These boots won't see the terrain of Afghanistan on my feet. I am very disappointed and will be returning these to look at another brand. This is the first time I posted a rant about a product I have purchased so you know I am a bit unhappy. I just don't want anyone to make the same mistake.

I have these boots and really love them for hiking (but wear mountaineering boots for mountaineering..Raineer, Denali, etc.). I don't wear them for rock climbing as I have rock climbing shoes for that. Nor do I wear them for trail or road running as I have shoes for those activities as well. I read lots of reviews and do research prior to purchasing shoes, and yes my feet are a bit jacked from wearing Army issue boots for 27+ years (retired MSG). Most poor ratings are from people that complain about such things as: "this is a crapy screwdriver. It broke when I tried to hammer in a 16d nail." Use common sense. This is a great "light" hiking boot. I'll by another pair if these ever wear out.

Ok look at the description they are a light weight hiking boot NOT a heavy duty backpacking boot. Its rustys fault for using an 80lb pack and running them. Im also in the military and I have done a ton of rucks and hiking in my off time and my boots are just fine. I also know a large group of guy that used these boots on their last deployment and they are still wearing them today and they look just fine. But they werent using 80lb pack either. The bottom line is you have to do your research before buying something and then when you get it you need to use them for their intended purpose.

Write your comment here...why wouldn't a pair of good durable boots handle rough terrain as well as some weight ... sounds like the Asolos are just pretty shoes ... thank you for the comments ... I won't be buying those .... any alternatives?

Just because you are authorized to wear Asolo boots doesn't make them suitable for lugging 70 lb packs up the mountains of Afghanistan. It is totally your fault for assuming these boots are made for such a thing. Try Lowa Tibet they should be authorized

No way Rusty99 keep your review up. Stephen and shadow4rce, here is why. These boots have been allowed to be worn by soldiers in afghanistan along with a few others which is very abnormal considering regulations on uniforms in the past only secret squirrel guys were allowed to wear civilian hiking boots. They are a very popular boot with the force and many wear them now or will possibly buy them. This review definitely helped me as I was considering buying them for the same reason. Thanks Rusty.

I agree with Stephen. These boots are made to handle 80lb packs for trekking in the mountains of Afghanistan. Being prior Army I know this is common sense. You should remove this as it is your fault and not the product

It was your mistake for running in the boots and carrying an 80 pound pack with them. The boots are designed for neither.
