Item #THU0324 | 2 in Stock
4 Star Rating

Works just like it looks

By Ranked #1807 - Car Racks February 14, 2007

Opening the loops is difficult, but they are secure once closed. The loops are different sizes and may not fit all bikes.

These types of adapters are a necessity if you want to get maximum use out of your rack and don't want to look like some dope going down the road with your bikes all crooked and stuff. I already owned two made by Saris before buying these that work great, so I was familiar with how they work. Also, before buying these I looked at the Yakima version at a local retailer to see how they were designed. The loops on the Yak version were not as large as those on the Saris model so I went with the Thules since I had just bought a Thule hitch rack and cargo box. "Amazingly ?" the Thules are almost identical to the Yak version. I agree with the previous reviewer that they are hard to open but seem solid once closed and should function fine. The Saris version doesn't seem to have as strong of a locking mechanism, but the bigger loops make them easier to attach to at larger variety of bikes. I've hauled bikes about 500 miles on the Saris' and they worked fine. We'll be doing a head to head test in July with the Thules when I haul four bikes to the Triple Bypass in CO. I'm sure they will do fine but if you plan to buy any of these things you should check them out at a local retail shop and then buy from backcountry.com. BC always has the best prices and you can't beat their service.
