Too hard for a base prep...

By Ranked #1171 - Cross Country Skiing December 4, 2006

The best base prep wax is SSVT/RaceService1 because it flows at a low temp and impregnates the base.
I found the Toko to be OK, but a tad too hard. It did not soak into the base well, and even after top coating with a harder wax, they skis quickly base burned.
I actually find the Toko system 3 yellow is a better choice for hot scraping and base prep.

The reality is that base prep wax is kind of a fallacy. For new skis or freshly ground skis, the best is to wax with a very soft wax such as yellow and then after a few coats to go with a hard wax such as blue. Then the skis are ready for waxing and skiing. Our base prep is a decent hardness for working on skis in general which it is intended for.
