Genesis re-wrote the book on softshell

By Ranked #1506 - Men's Softshell Jackets July 26, 2006

On a cold or rainy day I reach for the Genesis jacket. I own 10 softshell jackets which include: 3 Marmot, 2 ArcTeryx, 2 REI, 1 Mamut, 1 Royal Robbins, and an Ibex. The Genesis is the most waterproof. The hood tension strap keeps the hood in the perfect place, the pockets are in the right places and the fit allows for the use of a sweater as a base layer. This material is not the thickest or the warmest, but the technical factors of the hood and the fit provide warmth when you use them. If the temperature is below forty degrees, I want a sweater underneath. The Marmot Sharp Point jacket would be warmer if it had a hood due to the thickness of the fabric. Both are more waterproof and warmer than the Arc Teryx Gamm SV & Gamma Light which don't have a membrane, but consequently breath better. The Genesis' membrane and sealed seams create a jacket that is windproof and waterproof. The fabric has a very nice feel. You'll appreciate the laser-cut fabric because the glued seams line up perfectly. Like my other Marmot jackets the Genesis looks nice!
