Forester backback review...

Ranked #757 - Weeklong Packs (Over 4500 cu in)
July 18, 2003
I finally had to bite the bullet and replace my 1981 Gregory pack. After almost 25 years of hard usage, it was time (although I intend to send it to Gregory and have them refurbish it-one great reason to stick with this company). The Forester is an easy pack to fit to one's torso, and has the proper adjustments to change pack position on the trail. Quality is typical of Gregory-first class rip-stop nylon body, rubberized bottom to keep that sleeping bag dry, and high quality zippers. Bottom and mid compartment openings made the access to cargo easy, and I like the double bag top drawstring arrangement. Compression straps work well, and there are plenty of places to strap in the sleeping pad, tent fly or other bulky items that you might want to carry outside the pack. The sole complaint that I have is that the netting side carriers where I wanted to carry a water bottle are too small to be much good. I'm not sure of their intended purpose, but water bottles it ain't! I carried the pack through 102 degree heat in Colorado this July. Air circulation is as good as you can get for something that rides on your back. The real strong point is the comfort of carrying the pack with a load. I had no chafing points or muscle strain from uneven load distribution. To sum it all up-for a 3-4 day trip, this is a terrific pack at a reasonable price.
