Pretty Slick Tent

By Ranked #2605 - 3-Season Tents July 10, 2003

I just got back from a 3 day excursion over the Fourth of July holiday using the North Face Slickrock Ultralight Tent. Going Solo, you can't share gear to economize weight, so everything in the backpack is weight critical. The Slickrock met my every need. Not only is it lightweight (3lbs. 12 oz) but is roomy, quick to assemble and very easy to get in and out of from either side door. Since it is free-standing, I usually didn't bother with the stakes if there wasn't any wind. Nor did I put up the rain fly for these rainless nights. However, inside the tent, I was totally out of the skeeters that peered at me hungrily from behind the netting. Most impressive of this tent is the compression sack that you can store your tent. There is plenty of room to get the tent into the sack and there is also three compression straps to ensure that it takes up the most minimal space within your backpack. Next test will be a 6 day excursion down the John Muir Trail in September. On that trip, I get to share it.
