Light, fast, and grippy

While those three adjectives almost sum up the Catalyst experience, other words inevitably come to mind: comfortable, high quality, well balanced, and roomy, just to name a few. As an approach shoe, these are more of a trail runner with a sticky Stealth rubber sole than a day hiker, meaning they favor flexibility and grip over ankle support and ruggedness. The forefoot offers adequate cushioning without sacrificing feel, and a broad, stable center keep you balanced. The spacious toe box seems almost too generous, although the solid lacing system keeps your foot snugly in place. If you run small in your size (as I do in a 12), you may want to consider buying a half-size smaller. All in all, superb for scrambling and hiking in warmer temps.
